I need one that can handle very long dog hair. I mean, dulux dog long, and the twigs and other foliage that she brings in from her walks.

I am happy to pay dyson/miele/sebo prices, but I need to know which one can cope with this dog hair.

I'm not talking pet hair attachments that are no bigger than a hair brush as I don't have time to go over the whole house with a tiny brush head. I need the main machine to do all the work. I'm after one that pulls my carpets off the floor boards and all the dog hair with it.

Please help me mumsnetters - I am on my 3rd machine since adopting our lovely doggie, but aside from shaving her, I am at my wits end......

LOL at builders using Hetty

puffylovett · 29/05/2009 09:24

ooh get kirby to come out and give you a demo. Their sales pitch is really pushy (brother in law is ex salesman) but when they show you what comes out of your carpet in comparison to ordinary hoover, it makes you shudder.

I def wouldn't buy one new though, they're too expensive !!

With mine I got a vacuum with attachment, carpet cleaning attachment, power wash attachment and even a gizmo to blow up air beds not sure what thats all about but hey it will come in handy one day !!!

I bought a Hetty a few weeks ago and Ill deny ever saying this but "its a real pleasure to hoover now"

Miele cat and dog! I have two cats, one with v long hair, and it picks up everything. Plus it has lots of attachments for doing the sofa etc that actually work.

Ditto, JustBe - is v sad but true, I love hoovering now too!

i would never buy another vax worst vacuum i ever had used to get static electric shocks all the time i love my henry but wish he would break down so i could buy hetty but no he just keeps going and going

Another vote for the Hetty. I know a cleaner who does lots of peoples houses so uses many types of hoover and she says the Henry or Hetty is way better than the more expensive Dyson/Miele types
