I've hoovered bedroom thoroughly (horrid Dyson is back on track YES)
put some more clothes in the teenage daughter bag for the loft those days of being size 12 are forever gone
changed sheets
put winter duvet away
found some exciting garden books in bedroom loft cupboard from years ago thanks goodness I didn't chuck them! one called Ornamental Kitchen Garden by late G. Hamilton. My bedroom is becoming a lovely reference haven.
There are two dustcollecting areas I cannot deal with though. Wardrobe immutable, and bed itself. Why are hoovers so bad at reaching under low areas?

sorted another 3 loads of washing 2 in progress.
cleaned out compost bucket and watered several plants

Playdate about to arrive, need to make some Betty Crocker packet brownies.
possibly brave the sandpit

Dilettante, sometimes though a sink is just a sink, one shouldn't get too OCD especially when every teabag is a reproach.

swanriver · 21/05/2009 16:15

The weird thing is that my bedroom is getting easier to clean and tidy, every time it is in zone clean I am amazed how little is actually required.

That's lovely Gibbberish re: dds. It's strange but halfterm seems so exhausting in terms of having to imput constantly to keep them "entertained" or "exercised"(though pleasant in other ways)that I forget they can actually do it themselves, it's almost as if they lose the knack from being in school.

swanriver · 21/05/2009 16:15

But I suspect you know all that.

scattyspice · 21/05/2009 16:27

Hi all.

Well done with those bedrooms.

Done:
walked home from school
given buggy to friend (recieved lovely box of thorntons, yum).
laundry re boot
putting off packing.

The routines I learnt on these threads have been my lifesaver now I'm working 4 days a week It amazes me how quickly things go downhill if I let things slide for even a day or two.
My house looked really nice when ds and I walked in 30mins ago My mornings work clearing up was worth the effort.

Gibb you've done brilliantly with your bedroom! Good luck for tomorrows filing (my worst nightmare!)

Ds and I are back from physio - no progress yet

Bought a pizza and cream buns for tea - very tired this evening for some reason.

gibbberish · 21/05/2009 17:37

dil you're lightbulb moment was very profound!

swan that's interesting about school. Never really thought of it that way!

bianca I loathe filing with a vengeance. I actually took the whole lot out of the tray today and stuck it in a carrier bag then hid it in a cupboard because it was making my nice clean bedroom look untidy Will have to do it tomorrow though

Dinner over. Going to relax now. bbl x

Evening all

mad slow cooker recipe was from my new slow cooker book from cheapy bookshop - there is several variations in it for various risottos...will post it a bit late when Dc in bed. This is only the second time I've done it in slow cooker, cooked it slightly too long tonight and was a bit a bit soft, but was lovely last time! Handier than doing it stove top during evening /after school chaos LOL will be back with rec...

dil Love the light bulb moment. It is all about small routines that make a big difference!I think that realising that helps you not to get too ocd about the sink actually...realising it is the little routines and not the sink itself...so if one night the sink isnt shiny everyhting doesnt fall apart!

bianca glad your hard work payed off

swan gosh youve done loads!

gib yay for tidy bedroom!

gib/swan I think when you home ed, both you and DC get into a way doing things that needs less input and flows better...My Dc seemed quite good at working on projects /entertaining themselves when they were home ed, plus I seemed to be quite calm and unflappable with them, but now when they are ome on holiday and I'm on my own with them they seem to need input every second, and I seem to get more stressed....think both them and me have got out of the habits that used to help us all....them used to be less independant at school, and me used to having less people demanding me all the timeetc....

Right need to dash to sort out DD 3 and 4...BBL

mad risotto recipe....easy really...never thought to try it in slow cooker before LOL

Leek and Ham risotto

1 tbsp olive oil
25g butter
1 med onion, chopped
4 leeks, sliced
1 ½ tbsp freshly chopped thyme
290g easy cook or Arborio rice
750ml veg stock
225g cooked ham
175g peas
50g parmesan cheese

Cook onion and leeks in butter and oil till soft, stir in thyme.
Add rice, stir well. Continue stirring over low heat for about 1 min till rice is glossy, stir in stock and transfer to slow cooker dish.
Cook on high for 30 mins
Add ham and peas and cook on low for about 1 hour.
Add more stock if it becomes too dry.
Sprinkle over parmesan and stir, then serve.

This is the one I did first time. I didn?t follow these exact ammounts, as I needed to make more, so used more rice, ham and peas.
Also I didn?t add parmesan as my DC don?t like it. I did cook mine for a bit longer as it wasn?t quite cooked after allotted time but I was cooking more?
Tonight I just adapted it to use up left over chicken , with peas and thyme?.was nice but got distracted in the garden and overcooked it a bit?was bit too soft and gloopy...
Also I used Arborio rice both times as that is what I usually use for Risotto?not tried it with Easy Cook yet?.
Think you could probably adapt it to add whatever you want really?.makes quite a quick and easy meal!

Right must dash again...hopefully BBL

Today was moderately successful.
But dd has been straining my patience, alas.
Not a smidgen of independent play, just constantly getting into scrapes (the latest was riding her scooter indoors and falling and then being Miss Needy for a hour afterwards) She would hoover up every minute of my attention if she could. Feel so frustrated by it, as it is clearly a reaction to school, brothers etc, yet it doesn't seem possible that every afternoon should be spent entirely dd focused. Yesterday we did sewing for a hour together at her request which she loved. Today we made brownies, opened sandpit, pulled crackers but to no avail. She is still in a poor me no-one is playing with me mood.
Just because ds2 had a friend, (who was happy to play with her)

Someone reassure me that this is how 6/7 year old girls behave. Do they just need friends round ALL the time to function?

swanriver · 21/05/2009 19:45

Re: Rice. I wonder whether it would work pilaff style as well in slow cooker, Galen, with basmati or easy cook, must try it!

Fishcakes have gone down well...
We are all watching an old episode of Dr Who now with DH.

TheMadHouse · 21/05/2009 19:59

galen Thanks for the recipe - I will get some more rice over the weekend.

My two have been horrors too.

Playing basket ball with apples
Sofa cushions unzipped and left everywhere
Water fight
Getting out of PJ's after being put in them

In fact DS2 is still shouting upstairs - arggggggggggggggggggggggg

I am much less tolerant when tired

Early night is needed. Me and DH had to change our bed through after the horrors ate strawbs in it only changed it bloody earlier in the week.

Must make plans for next week.

I feel much more positive now TMH!
Lol apple basketball, how inventive, and strawberry sheet picnic sounds idyllic...like something from a Bergman film
Actually, I did once just let my kids go to bed without pjs just to show them I was not bothered by their behaviour. They were most put out.

Ah Yes, PLANS. Very important.

Evening all. I don't think I'm very good at this whole fly thing
Well, it is only day 2, so not too bad.
After lunch me and ds's went into town and I bought a new watch because my mobile has broken again. Last time my phone broke, I had to take my bedside clock out in my handbag so I knew what time it was , and I also got some new make-up.
As I can't get into master bedroom til 4/5pm, I have decided to do ds1's room instead. So I didn't do the things I wanted in the bathroom, but I did clear out ds1's closet and bag up all old clothes ready for car boot and put away all ds1's clothes to save for ds2.
I think my problem is time management. Plus, I seem to do everything the wrong way round. I have been sweeping and mopping my kitchen floor in the morning, but just went in there to shine sink, and it dawned on me, that it would make more sense to get up and have it already clean. I need to learn how to think and plan it would seem.
Tomorrow, I want to wash down the doors and door frames of sticky finger prints , get rid of all evidence that I occasionally give ds1 chocolate and haven't managed to chase after him cleaning the path of destruction he leaves

Whoops

swanriver · 21/05/2009 21:48

Don't worry LBB, sounds good! I've done clock trick too before now too.

Kitchen looks immaculate , I'm staying up to watch Brothers and Sisters which I've missed for last few weeks. Just fitting in 10 mins clothes reallocation before telly.

BBtomorrow

littleboyblue · 21/05/2009 21:56

Enjoy your program. I should go to bed now, ds2 has a stinking cold and sounds like a pig (!) so I expect to have another rough night with him.
I'm going to have a little peep at what my babystep is for tomorrow first

Tortoise · 21/05/2009 22:10

I think i should get to bed too. Why do colds always get worse in the evenings?

3 out of 4 DC have inset day tomorrow so no school run for me. And no lunch boxes to make!

littleboyblue · 21/05/2009 22:17

God, I am dreading the day school run starts! But can't wait at the same time

Are you all actually members of the Flylady website? I was looking at it and it says that unless you register, you won't get to read certain bits and pieces. Is it worth joining? Or are the links at the start of the thread enough to do it successfully?

I'm not a member. Don't very often look at the site TBH . Bad FLY person here!

littleboyblue · 21/05/2009 22:23

I think I might just be getting a bit carried away with myself though. I'm thinking about what happens when I complete baby steps, and how I get my control manual or whatever it is started?

Tortoise · 21/05/2009 22:29

I am a bit of a filed FLYer really. I haven't got into routines at all. But i got to know all the lovely people on this thread and like to pop in. Helps motivate me to do housework too.
