Okay, I am clearly worrying way too much about this but there are only a few spaces left in the old thread!

(What do I think will happen if we finish without a new list? We'll just make a new one. Relax woman!)

Thanks to alicecrail for the title.

Please finish the old thread before starting on this one - there could be a prize if you are number 1000.

So I went to meet my friend for coffee and they were drawing a pretty sign to go in the window saying they wanted someone to do some shifts in the little cafe. Am I crazy to have said 'hey, I'm not doing anything at the moment'? I've got a trial tomorrow morning, I just need to persuade them to let me only do the weekday shifts they have as I don't want to be working at the weekend if DP is working all week.

TA - it could be fate

cikecaka · 05/05/2009 16:43

Oh well done TRILLIAN, fingers crssed for you

TrillianAstra · 05/05/2009 16:47

Fate? It's a job in a coffee shop for pocket money.

D'you reckon that next week I'll be serving coffee to someone who is just setting up their own business doing something fantastic and they will hire me to work with them?

They'll probably say they want one person to do all the shifts they're advertising for, and I really don't want to work Sat and Sun, so I might not even get this.

Don't be all 'well done' yet, I'm going in tomorrow for a trial, and from the sound of it they'll do that for anyone who walks in off the street and shows the slightest bit of interest.

OP posts:
FrankMustard · 05/05/2009 17:33

Plum - as least it's the right time of year to change to hanging outside!

TA - what about a customer who gives you a lottery ticket for a tip?
Or a regular who gets chatting to you who works somewhere relevant for you and knows of a job going?
and so on!

ok i'm not normally the optimist but still, gets you out of the house and you can still apply for normal jobs off-shift.

all good i think! (wish i liked coffee and i lived near, quite fancy a part-time out and about job!)

Today:

  • tea for everyone DONE
  • boys to bed
  • me to orchestra (check cash for sitter, remember i've agreed to pay rise!)
  • remember to take everyone's pottery from social last week
  • me to bed

Ongoing:

  • get to 8stone 7lbs (currently 8,11)
  • contact handyman (sort list)
  • get photos of family & hang them up
  • buy some more cheap photo albums
  • contact neighbour to sort out fixing fence TalkedToHerWillGetHandymanToHaveALook
  • book nursery for extra work days coming up & for Thurs when DS2 has his MRI
  • go through all websites i've bought stuff off recently and change passwords
  • research epilepsy alarms
  • get written instructions for nursery to deal with ds2 ToDoByMonday
  • research epilepsy and see if there's a MN thread to join Ongoing
  • find correct sized refills for filofax pen
TrillianAstra · 05/05/2009 17:49

Yeah, hopefully it'll be fun workin in a slightly hippyish cafe. If I do the couple of weekday shifts surely there will be plenty of students/sixthformers who want a weekend jobI just reckon there will be people with actual cafe experience lining up to do the whole lot, as there are hardly any jobs around at the moment.

OP posts:
TrillianAstra · 05/05/2009 18:09

Moan. Whine. Won't get it anyway. Won't even get a job in a coffee shop, I'm so crap.

Sorry. Will stop that now.

OP posts:
HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 05/05/2009 18:38

Evening all.

Work ok today. Bit dull. Amused at people staring at my obvious bump and seeing their brains tick over but not asking me any questions like ' Are you getting really fat or are you preggers?'. I am 17 weeks now so surely they will cotton on. Boss and a couple of people I sit near know but not many others so I'm waiting for the gossip mill to go round and they all work it out.

TA - At least its something. Looking for work is a nightmare. You'll get all kinds of experience and like they say 'Its not what you know its who you know' so you might meet that Business Exec and get chatting. If not at least you'll get lunch.

Ah jobs.

Jobs
go to work done
Put something more comfortable on
Tidy bedroom(s)
Hoover branflakes off DS's floor done at last!
DS into bed
Make dinner for DH and I
Filing getting urgent
Watch all TV that couldn't watch when PIL here
DS's nursery bag

Tomorrow / This week
Pick up parcel from post office
Do some exercise x 3 times a week

JustKeepSwimming · 05/05/2009 18:50

LOL HMB - but i met up with a friend i don't see often last week and she was 19 weeks, but still not obv pg. she saw me and said 'wow you're looking skinny, lost loads of weight'
'thanks' said i
....
awkward silence as i relaise i can't say the same to her but it's not an obv enough bump for me to go 'OMG, when're you due?!'

TA - been there mate. got turned down for all sorts of jobs i knew were 'beneath me' (no offence intended, referring specifically to jobs that anyone could do rather than specialised jobs that require specific training, eg teaching)

i didn't get a job at M&S
i didn't get a job at Next (they were too snooty for me anyway, lol!)

i did however get jobs at:

  • the local Chinese takeaway
  • WHSmith (loved that job actually)
  • random pubs

Oh, what M&S missed out on

Today:

  • boys to bed DS2 done
  • me to orchestra (check cash for sitter, remember i've agreed to pay rise!)
  • remember to take everyone's pottery from social last week InCar
  • me to bed

  • find correct sized refills for filofax pen
HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 05/05/2009 19:31

JKS - It is a delicate situation when you aren't sure if someone has got a bun in the oven. The lads in the office (who know I am pg) are going on and on about me 'piling the weight on' every time I order a teacake from the canteen or eat a biscuit. I am 9st 7lbs fgs- hardly tipping the scales, cheeky s*ds . I shall worry about getting back in shape after having the baby (slight paranoia though ).

Jobs
go to work done
Put something more comfortable on done
Tidy bedroom done
Hoover branflakes off DS's floor done at last!
DS into bed onhisway
Make dinner for DH and I
Filing getting urgent doing
Watch all TV that couldn't watch when PIL here
DS's nursery bag
Try on maternity clothes from littlewoods done
Return maternity clothes to littlewoods - too small (more size paranoia!)

Tomorrow / This week
Pick up parcel from post office donebyDH
Do some exercise x 3 times a week

MuppetsMuggle · 05/05/2009 20:09

Evening all

TA - good news about your job.

I've done everything on my list, except my assignments, I really need to get those done.

Tomorrow can you add to your list to make sure I do some of my assignments!!!

TrillianAstra · 05/05/2009 20:34

at pregnant/not pregnant confusion etiquette. The friend I had coffee with apparently has 3 weeks to go, very exciting! She's really looking healthier than before, I've never seen anyone actually glow

And of course she is very obviously pregnant, no confusion there.

(the glowing could be down to spending many afternoons in the garden for the past two weeks as she's stopped work already)

OP posts:
SqueezyDiva · 05/05/2009 21:34

People - while I am at your weight-controlling/ list-busting/ chore-dispensing / housework-loving / showy-offy get-things-doneness; you do all seem quite mad.

Does this thread help you get more done? Are you really interested in what anyone else has acomplished on any given day? Do you read a longer list and feel motivated to rush off and get a bit more done before bedtime?

wastingmyeducation · 05/05/2009 21:40

Good luck with the coffee shop trial Trillian, sounds like it could be fun!

Being rather large, I was a good five or six months gone before you could tell. I'd stand with my hands in my back or rested on my bump to make it clear.

TrillianAstra · 05/05/2009 21:48

We are indeed quite mad. It's great.

I think I do actually do more now that I make lists.

OP posts:
HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 05/05/2009 21:57

Squeezy -I find the list a useful reminder and its nice to have some friendly banter along the way. I don't think anyone is showy off? I rarely get much done on the list at all! I don't try to get a few more things done before bed unless they really need to be done the next day. Usually I veg out of an evening and give up on jobs. Don't know about the rest...

Jobs
go to work done
Put something more comfortable on done
Tidy bedroom done
Hoover branflakes off DS's floor done at last!
DS into bed done
