Popping in briefly again in search of motivation!
Now pouring so planned afternoon gardening session has been abandoned
Have loads to do but feeling a bit frazzled!

need to make a list!

To do:
Clean washing away
General tidy
Clean kitchen
Laundry reboot
Sort older girls room

Right off to set timer and crack on.....

Who knows about veg planting?? Can I use anything to make a raised bed? Does it need drainage? (thinking of using very large plastic storage boxes I have in garage as skint and cant buy anything! Is this a really ridiculous idea??? - very dumb newbie veg grower emoticon!)

Off now honestly!
BBL

Off the top of my head, (and you would be better to look on BBC website like Gardeners' World) I think you can make raised beds from anything (timber boards, railway sleepers (not creosoted as it is poisonous to plants), tailormade plastic strip thingies, rocks even)- it's just a way to provide a layer of good soil when underneath is a bit mingy, and ease of access to plants (less bending), and 2. you do need some drainage holes pierced in bottom of a plastic container or else it would be waterlogged when it rains heavily.
A friend grows potatoes in ikea circular soft storage bags, the ones with handles.

GROUCHY WILL KNOW THE ANSWER.

Question Ladies. I have a small tub of natural yogurt & a fresh lemon. Can I make a sauce for pasta with salmon?

Report
swanriver · 03/03/2009 14:34

EHM, I have never succeeded with yoghurt pasta.
It might go too runny? I fear you might need something creamier like ...cream. or creme fraiche.
Melted cream cheese also works, or white sauce? or just lots of melted butter.

Report
Wolfcub · 03/03/2009 14:43

scatty thank you I will give those a go
swan I might try the swimming too but I am not very good at it and always feel like I may as well be naked despite swimsuit with legs
ehm I might aim for the melted butter with the lemon and plenty black pepper for the pasta but that all depends on how think your yoghurt is, if it is creme fraiche consistency it might work and the lemon may well thicken it further.

ruby, ehm the ww is one of my favourite shows of all time, I usually watch the whole 7 series at least once a year all back to back

Wolf, in our swimming pool there are in fact some muslim ladies with allover swimsuits, and I thought how sensible. It is a strange feeling meeting people you know there and chatting - you are basically in your underwear. horrible, I try now never to go in, but watch children from the side. They are keen swimmers.
Must change my ways as I always LOVED swimming. Today for example I should have gone for a long swim and not done the ironing. Dh was right!

Done ironing - all dh's shirts for next two weeks and hung up in cupboard
cleaned kitchen
discarded some paper from hotspot areas
supper is in hand

Swan You can grow in anything. My 'garden' is 1/2 a dozen 30l builder's buckets without the handles and 4 plastic storage crates all with holes drilled in the bottom. We got a fair amount of lettuce from them last year. Raised beds can be made from just about anything too, just keep them watered.

I've only been listening to Gardeners' Question Time for a year! I'm no expert, just enthusiastic

Right, taken dts to park for a bicycle ride and runaround for 45 mins
Taken dts to their Tues club across road for an hour
picked up ds1 from gaelic football
now making some more packet bread to warm my hands up
have to think about COSTUMES for world book day on Thurs. so far all my (easy)suggestions have been refused. Last year we had the Fat Controller, Horrendous Haddock the Viking, and homemade cinderella. This year I want dd to go as character from Famous Five with dog, ds2 to go as a Duffy Driver, and ds1 to go as a normal boy.

swan, making costumes, i wouldn't know where to start!

I feel the same at the swimming baths Wolf! Esp when i bump into someone I know. The worst time was when DS was 1.5 and escaped from the pool and ran into reception, I had to chase after him dripping wet in my cossie . Didn't go back for a while.

sag - hope you feel better soon.

ehm - lol at hairhouse!

Plenty to do still...

Evening all Welcome Gumpy - Part timer FLYer here
Whoever starts tomrrows thread usually links it to todays so when you come back here in the morning there should be a link to the next one.
It always says FLY in the title, so if you lose us completely it will be towards the top of the god housekeeping thread list.

I spent 4 hours sorting out all the paperwork that has been piling up for months yesterday
I have even done dps books and arranged to update my will to include ds!

Still checking in and lurking for news of TMH I am thinking about you lots, and hope you are recovering well

Evening all!
swan grouchy thanks for gardening tips! I think my large plastic boxes may work then with some holes drilled in bottom. We have borders, but no where really suitable for veggie patch as such. Not to mention soil is useless. I do have LOTS of compost from my bins though...

swan costumes sound good. My kids have to wear something yellow on Friday for fairtrade (banana) week - need to rumage in loft for summer things I think!

scatty routine cards sound great - how exactly do they work? (sorry if I missed explanation somehwhere )

Not much FLYing here AGAIN today - poor DS2 is really suffering with his teeth. He has at least 2 about to pop through any minute. They seem to really bother him. DD4 hardly seemed to notice hers. The bad news is that although he is 11 months old he still only has 2 1/2 teeth LOL so still a LOT to come. Bless him.
So mostly lots of trying to cheer him up, cuddles, rocking etc...

Littlies all in bed now though, and DH late back so will try and blitz a bit now.

Hopefully swimming tomorrow, though I agree with wolf and scatty about the whole swimming costume thing!.... littlies love it though!

Right, now need to come up with some lists I think - feel free to ignore but need to focus!

To do tonight:
Lounge tidy
Bottom of stairs tidy
Kitchen tidy - DW on, surfaces
TD empty, fold dry clothes, WM empty - hang clothes/TD, reload WM
Dining room tidy
Sweep all floors
swimming stuff for littlies and me
Check swimming times
read book
Shine sink Bed!

To do tomorrow:
Mornihng Routines :MUST NOT SKIP!!
Up, brekkie, dressed - all
Reboot laundry
beds made
Kichen tidy
D/room tidy
S&S bathrooms
School run
Home - snack Dd4
Sort dinner (fish pie)
Tidy downstairs
hoover lounge
Mop floors
Swimming
home - ds NAP (please!)
Tidy upstairs - sorting out in kids rooms
Clean clothes away
Hoover upstairs (if DS awake!)
School run
Home from school - Riley challenge for kids
Home work
Reading DD3
Dinner
bath/bad littlies
reading DD2
Lunchboxes
Evening routine
read book
Collapse!

Hmmm also need to fit in some gardening somewhere - not to mention excavating boxes from garage to drill holes in....Oh and need to sort some stuff for DS Scout trip at wk/end....oh and a present for DD4's friend B'day....Why oh why arent there more hours in the day!

In reality DS will no doubt still be sad so all I'll dois snuggle him, and maybe swimming ... but at least I've planned now LOL
Right off to get on with list now!
see you all tomorrow!

galen you may already be doing this but have you tried ashtons and parsons powders?

hi jas good to see you

qumpy just look in the good housekeeping topic, you'll always find us as Jas says near the top because we are all popping in and out during the day, I'm a sucker for coming on here at lunchtime at work just so I can see what everyone is up to.

fed ds, had to make two dinners because he refused the first he's obviously still not feeling quite right and the little so and so deliberately poured his milk all over the throw I'd just washed and dried so I shall have to do that again.

trimmed a couple of bits of ds's hair that I had missed

sainsbos order arrived, cleaned out fridge with milton and chucked out old food

put sainsbos order away, it's nearly killed me it took an hour and I feel awful now not helped by dp walking through the door and throwing up, lovely.
I've had some tonic to settle my tum and am going to crash out for a bit now, urgh.
