okay domestic godesses, how do you get sick out of a carpet?

After a weekend of a vomiting three year old taking it out on a fairly old, light blue (with flowers) carpet, I now have some cleaning to do.
In my defence, I did clean the carpet pretty thoroughly with hot water and washing up liquid at the time, but it's left a definite stain. Any ideas or product recommends?

Anything with 'oxy' in the title will normally shift vomit stains. If they are orangey stains they will probably take a few treatments. But don't worry, they will come out!

and once dry and cleanish looking. Sprinkle bicaronate of soda on it and leave for a few hours then Vacuum it up. It helps remove any odour.
