Afternoon all

Scatty He will be going twice a week for 1.45 hours on his own and then for one afternoon session with DS1. This is with surestart for my operation. I want him to be used to it all. My planning is all coming together, I have a meeting tomorrow afternoon to firm up all plans with them

School is shutting at 1pm. It is due to the fact that we are rural and they want to ensure all the children get home. I guess some poor mites will be left regardless.

I have done home blessing
Lunch done
Ironing done and boys away
polished DS2's room and cleaned inside of his window
Polished DS1's room

SO I still have our room to finnish and ironing to pop awa
Whats for dinner - mince

Wolf Thanks for the receipes will add to my collection and try

Did anyone have problems with internet after lunch? Lots of people working from home today methinks.

Scatty our school is not rural, not even surburban (I wish it was) but apparently there were health and safety issues with letting children out of classroom during breaks (slipping, wet clothes etc). I don't mind, but think they should have allowed the desperate parents the option of leaving kids at school under care of few local teachers, and indoors, and tell everyone else to keep kids at home. But round here the parks were full of joyous kids! Tomorrow's off too. Unfortunately our kids' best local friends have gone skiing (in termtime the wretches).

We are having a nice time now, dd is painting wooden bugs, ds2 is playing with his cars and ds1 is chatting to dad. I think tomorrow we'll go to the much bigger park and do some serious snow walking.

Just felt slightly caught out, thinking today was going to be tidyup day!

grouchyoscar · 02/02/2009 16:17

Hello All

It's well snowy here as wolf and wendy will confirm. Ed is off school and has spent most of the day playing Wii games with DH who is also off.

And a good thing it is too. DH is a huge Pittsburgh Steelers Fan (but not as huge as Ben Roethlisberger ) so it was superbowl night at Grouchy's then superbowl early am and it all finished at 3:30 this morning. DH had no fingers/nerves left at all. I tried leaving him to it but I could feel his tension even though I was 1 floor down! Anyway. I'm rather tired to say the least

Spent this morning chasing the council for a vunerable neighbour. Went to check on her and she had no bread, no cash and her gas fire was broken. Shes in her 70s and has profound learning disabilities. I took bread milk and baked beans, made a lot of phone calls and I got her social worker and the housing department. Just been round and she has a new fire fitted so [phew]

But I have done beggar all FLYing here. Well I did lunch, Loaded, ran and emptied DW, put away, cleaned hob, work surfaces and shined the sink

Fluffed a hugged to saggyness teddy too

Hope you are all well and warm.

I need to make minestrone. Don't have to, just want to.

grouchyoscar · 02/02/2009 16:23

Cracking recipies Wolf

BTW, Harfords are a good reputable locksmiths if you need one. Did our doors and alarm.

EustaciaVye · 02/02/2009 16:29

Not much to report but just wanted to say well done grouchy - its good to look out for people.

swanriver · 02/02/2009 16:35

grouchy much better to help others than pesky housekeep.

Wolfcub · 02/02/2009 16:37

grouchy its the police community partnership who are doing it for free - they were only coming from huddersfield Good for you for fighting for your neighbour it really depresses me that social services don't take more care of the elderly and alone

done

been out to play snowballs in the field with ds - stepped in a very deep iced over puddle of slurry as I was carrying him back home so we have also had a bath.

We are both in jammies now but the kitchen is covered in mud and yeuch and slurry covered clothes and shoes - can't face tidying up just now

EHM · 02/02/2009 16:41

grouchy if there where only more people like you the world would be a nicer place. I am sure your neighbour is very grateful. you are very kind & thoughtful.

TheMadHouse · 02/02/2009 16:50

Way to go Groucy you are a fab person all round me thinks.

Wolf Slurry - yuk. Still snowing here.

Swan No issues with tinternet - DH has been on all day.

I have asked DH to take the day off tomorrow, as I HAVE to have my preop and there is no way I can take the boys or the buses will be running to get mum here and she can not look after them at her house.

We are having mince onions and yorkshire puds - yum.

Boys are boogieing to the wiggles feat Kylie Monkey man on utube

OP posts:
grouchyoscar · 02/02/2009 16:53

Wolf a lot of the problem is people don't know that there are services there to help them with what they need and conversley, the services are not aware of the people who need their help. Catch 22 really. I can't do anything but I can try and put the powers that be on the case for them.

Must make soup.....

Yes well done from me too Grouchy. What a kind soul .

Mad - the crech sounds an excellent idea (well planned!). how did he get on?

swan at your school! Last time it snowed Ds school kept them in all playtimes, but this time they were let out to build snowmen!

DD has declared that she doesn't like snow (it is cold!) so she watched through the window while ds and I built one in the garden . DS is a perfectionist so it took ages lol.

no flying so far. Need to hang out washing and do some ironing.

EV - that link looks good (will read later).

galen · 02/02/2009 17:49

Evening all.
Bit tired and frazzled today.DS2 having bad time with his teeth again. Has cried all day
Hope you all enjoyed the snow!
grouchy well done
wolf thanks for RP tips. Will def have a go!
mad hope all goes well tomorrow for you
wendy hoping your DD is a bit better today

Sorry cant remember the rest - but hello all

DH got to finish early today as his school shut, he picked up DC on way home too as they were allowed to come home early.
Home for snowman building and snowball fights in garden, followed by hot choc!
No rainbows or scouts tnight ( breathes seceret sigh of relief!)

Done most of what I needed to today
How do my doors get so seriously filthy?
Still a bit of washing to go away tomorrow...

Feeling really exhausted - did have bad night with Dd 4 and Ds2... so reading and early night tonight I think!
Wondering if school will be open tomorrow...

Wolfcub · 02/02/2009 18:21

evening all dp finally home it has taken him 3 hours

done

cleaned up mud and slurry
tidied kitchen
cleaned surfaces
cleaned worst of slurry of walking boots
mopped kitchen floor
root veg curry is on the stove bubbling nicely

galen is the book any good?

swanriver · 02/02/2009 19:08

Are you near a nice field Wolfcub? Perhaps lots of you are...

London is now a bit slushyeee now.
Children have been fed by dh while I ws on errand. He is definitely relieved to be going back to work tomorrow - he says he doesn't care how long it takes him ???

Galen - Our front door is filthy too. Maybe it's the murky lighting (hopeful).

Kids in bath now - possibly too cheerful for sleep.

Supper? now completely confused by all the delicious smells wafting from internet. Pasta with broccoli garlic etc.

Our cat loved the snow even more than the children, he was dancing in it! He's a newbie.

Wolfcub · 02/02/2009 19:16

swan yes there is a big hilly field right behind our. It's great but home to a lot of cows!

dinner eaten. Blueberry and almond muffins in oven.

Wolfcub · 02/02/2009 19:43

dw unloaded reloaded and on

TheMadHouse · 02/02/2009 19:44

Wolf I need to do some baking - if I am back in good time then that is what I will do tomorrow afternoon. Will get planning

We are still having bedtime wars with DS2, although tonight he might be hurting as he split his lip in a tussel for the first stair with DS2. DH is giving in bringing him down and giving him some calpol.

Scatty He really liked it - he made me a picture, knew the names of both the carers and told me he had a nice time without me and would like to go again next week He is a confident soul as EHM will atest too.

Wendy I hope you have managed a restful day with DD. It can not be easy on an empty tummy and having a sore hand. Hope you get some painkillers into her.

Groucy I have to agree with you on the help issue. The gas board are replacing the pipes downt he road my mum lives on (lots of old and elderly people there) and she got a letter on Sat telling her her gas could be off from 8.30 am to 9pm for over a month. She will be informed the day before and she needs to be in to have it reconnected each evening. She lives in an old large terrnace, which is a bugger to heat, especially once it gets cold and her heating and cooker are powered by Gas. You had to read the small print to see that as a person over 60 she is eligible for assistance, but she has to register herself for it Why they are doing this in Feb is beyond me

Swan Smudge (our 14 year old kitten) has refused to go out today. I think he was afriad we would lose him in the snow (he is white)

galen I am forever rubbing marks off everything child height. Pet hate is the french doors.

Anyway best give DS2 some attention and try getting him back to bed

dylsmum1998 · 02/02/2009 21:43

evening all just a quickie to say WELL DONE grouchy thats really kind and thoughtful of you, not many people would have bothered sadly.

well we have had a play day here so no housework done, except washing up, unload and reload washer, quick tidy and hoover through.
we have been building snowmen, trying to buy a seldge (no such luck) so we tried a large plant tray but that didnt slide, and then we found the elc sack race sacks, they work quite well if you sit on your knees

have had lots of fun and tonnes of fresh air.
i love going to the park in the snow its the one time its absolutely full and tis a big feild and adults and children of all ages play together.

children are in bed asleep, just waiting for wwasher to finish so can unload then i'm off. snow is meant to turn to slush/ice by morning so looks like i'll have no excuse not to send children to school/nursery and haul my butt into uni to do some work i wanna play in the snow!!

swanriver · 02/02/2009 22:23

Children all went to bed nicely. Trying to keep up with dd's demand for original fiction - episodes becoming more and more outlandish - tho' stops me falling asleep.
Kind Dh organised supper with me - delicious broccoli and prawn pasta.

Now dishclothes on express wash
recycling out
milkbottles out
load of laundry brought down
school clothes away in drawers
socks away in drawers
rest of washing up done
gloves relocated
worktops wiped
leftovers put in fridge

Lunch tomorrow
shepherds pie - need to prepare first thing for our return from park

Now a bit more pottering meandering planning and off to bed.
