What strange habits do you have around the house? (cleaning-wise)

No dishes in the sink - they have to be stacked at the side so I can wash them in a slightly obsessive compulsive manner

Cutlery has to be put in the draining board in a particular order - forks or anything that is like a fork in one bit, knives and anything like a knife in another and spoons in the other.

I realised that I do these things whilst doing the dishes. What are your strange habits?

Oh yes, and no water left in the washing up bowl, I can't stand it when it goes all cold and greasy.

You sound very normal to me

ComeWhineWithMe · 05/12/2008 12:07

I hate water in the washing up bowl ,can't stand dregs of tea in cups (makes me boak thinking of it).

BlueCowNowIsLowing · 05/12/2008 12:12

ComeWhine - I can't stand the bowl itself! It has to live in the cupboard until needed...

CharCharGaboriaInExcelsisDeo · 05/12/2008 12:18

I think that may be the first time in my life I've ever been called normal I hate the washing up bowl too, if we had one of those little rinsing bits then I'd bin it. Can't stand soapy dishes in the draining board. I don't like dregs of tea in cups either. And I hate crumbs in the butter.

Err, wet bread that sneaks into the washing up .

Bluecow that is odd ,I used to put mine upside down in the sink but dp hated it cos he would get soaked when he turned the tap on .

CharCharGaboriaInExcelsisDeo · 05/12/2008 12:21

boak @ wet bread. I can't stand anything sticky, soggy, greasy, slimy or smelly. Which makes washing up really fun

agreee with your dp!

VharChar, were you in the Brownies or the Guides? I was, and it left a lasting impression (still can't do knots or lay a tea tray but my washing up is very orderly)

I organise the washing up before I start - everything is rinsed then piled up together i.e. plates, glasses, cutlery etc. Then I start in order with only ever one item in the water at a time:

  1. Glasses
  2. Cutlery
  3. Cups
  4. Plates, bowls etc
  5. Saucepans
  6. Baking trays

Then rinse again and dry up/put away.

Thank goodness we have a dishwasher these days as it takes all day!

i hate water left in bowl, everything gets rinsed to within an inch of its life and i never towel dry, i hate streaks, so everything airdries in the rack but i hate those watermarks it leaves so im constantly drying the drainer while the stuff is drying. hate any water left on worksurfaces so they all do get toweldried. i am strange!!

CharCharGaboriaInExcelsisDeo · 05/12/2008 13:14

Mine is almost exactly the same provinciallady except I do cups after glasses I was in the brownies and guides so maybe that's where it comes from!

Totally agree with TheProvincialLady - it has to be only one item water at a time and rinsed before being put in the bowl. Also agree with your order. I HATE it when I'm at my mum's and she comes up while I'm washing up and puts SOMETHING ELSE in the bowl.
