Label says DRY CLEAN ONLY!! Will a gentle wool wash/handwash leave them wrecked? (I did once shrink my fave silver wool trews this way, so am hesitant to wash them, but feeling too tight to dry clean if I can diy!)

Any thoughts, domestic goddesses of MN??

I would never wash woven wool garments. Knitted ones can go in a wool wash.

how dirty are they?

I take off obvious snot / biscuit / etc with a nailbrush and hang them up to air

ohhh, thanks Lilymaid. So it's the weave that makes the difference??? Fave silver trousers were woven (alas!)

MrsB - it's the bottom of the hems - slightly muddied iykwim. Not the sort you can brush off. (trs are grey tweed)

Don't do it! As an ex-dry cleaner I can say you will definitely wreck them
