Is anyone still hanging the washing outside?

I've just hung a load on the line but I'm not sure there's much point. I really miss the line-dried smell if I hang it indoors though, plus I hate having damp washing draped everywhere.

When do you stop hanging outside?

Thinking about it!
Usually stop as soon as it gets cold as I find it's a waste of time.

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 09/10/2008 10:54

I've put some hand washing out but it'll still be damp later I'm sure

nickytwoooohtimes · 09/10/2008 10:54

It's quite windy and dry here, so I'lll be popping mine on the line. It does smell good.

Oh I'd forgotten! Yes I'm going to do it now! We live quite high up so we get a good bit of wind.

wasabipeanut · 09/10/2008 10:58

I try and give it a bit of air even if it mainly dried indoors. Even a couple of hours can make it smell a little nicer.

Sometimes though I do wonder why I bother.

feetheart · 09/10/2008 10:58

Just got one load out and will put another out a bit later. Would rather have it partially dried outside than lurking around being damp inside.
I am turning into my mother and find myself watching the weather forecast thinking 'Oh good, I can put the washing out tomorrow' There is no hope

bellavita · 09/10/2008 10:58

Me, I have hung some out this morning - sun has been out for ages.

Got two loads dry yesterday outside.

majeika · 09/10/2008 11:03

me too.

DS2 vomited over 2 lots of bedding, 4 towels and 3 lots of PJs last night so I have lots to do!!

scampadoodle · 09/10/2008 11:10

Ach, I'll leave it out for now. The heating isn't on in the house til this evening anyway so it may as well be outside.

majeika: I always find that bedlinen dries better outside regardless of the time of year, & it smells lovely & fresh!

I have 2 loads outside right now. It's bright sunshine and with a gentle breeze.

Piffle · 09/10/2008 11:12

blazing sun here got loads dry yesterday
We get wind here do I hang even on colder days as the wind takes a lot of moisture out and saves on tumbling ( I loathe tumbling stuff) and often can pop on radiator or airing cupboard and it's sorted.

Indith · 09/10/2008 11:13

I hang outside all year so long as it isn't raining. Got 2 loads dry out there yesterday and one load just finished...better put it out!

PuppyMonkey · 09/10/2008 11:13

My conservatory is brilliant on days like this for getting me washing dry. Goes in there on a clothes horse with a window open and when it gets sunny, dries a treat.

scampadoodle · 09/10/2008 11:16

I usually stop at this time of year (don't get any winter sun in the back garden) but I am determined to continue this year as I just love the freshness of it.

No wind today though.

DaisySteiner · 09/10/2008 11:20

Yes, it's a nice sunny day today so although it won't get completely dry I've hung out a couple of loads. I'll finish it later in the dryer on ecomomy 7.

Shitehawk · 09/10/2008 11:23

Yep, I have some out on the line at the moment. It's a dry, windy, sunny day today, if a bit cold; the washing will dry at least enough so that I don't have to hang it on the airer for long before it's completely dry, and it saves me putting the tumble drier on.

Even a short time on the line makes the washing feel and smell nicer than drying indoors or in the machine. And I like to see it blowing out there (simple pleasures, hey!).

lizziemun · 09/10/2008 11:35

God yes it's free .

If it not quite dry i just finish in the dryer for 10mins tonight.

ecoworrier · 09/10/2008 11:36

Yes, I hang out unless it is really raining badly. I find even in the depths of winter it usually gets at least 50% dry, often commpletely dry, so it only needs a quick air if anything. And that's in a north-facing garden.

Bridie3 · 09/10/2008 11:37

Yes--I will hang it out all through winter unless it's raining or foggy.

Walkthedinosaur · 09/10/2008 11:39

Second load just gone out, number 3 in the machine to go out later this afternoon. Am putting off using tumble dryer as much as possible this year.

snorkle · 09/10/2008 12:52

I hang outside all year round if the weather is good. Today is quite sunny & it will dry well. Yesterday was good too.

scampadoodle · 09/10/2008 12:54

It's sooooo satisfying, isn't it? or am I just sad?
