Anyone got a professional oven cleaner in and NOT been impressed?

So, those professional oven cleaner people - like ovenu and so on. Are they really worth the money? I have been pondering getting one in - just moved house and the oven needs some attention. It's not too horrendous - I mean, it's basically clean, but it's discoloured with baked-on stuff and looks like it's had a long time of only being cleaned superficially.

I can't face the idea of doing it myself, too pregnant and too tired. DH says "oh I'll do it", but I know he won't. He'll intend to, but he won't. But at the same time, I can't help but think it's silly to pay someone else to do it when we really should be able to do it ourselves. I suppose I'm just wondering if the results would be much better than we'd get ourselves?

I have an oven cleaning business and I am even impressed how great they come even after 5 years! I do it with no chemicals and am in Cheshire. I have seen what Mr muscle and Oven pride have done to work tops and wooden floors etc. not to mention seeing all the white residue in the oven that's being cooked with roast! 2,000 customers in my little area, so must have something right. Try it you will be impressed! J

Grittzio · 14/03/2014 18:41

I have an oven cleaning booked in for the 28th and I can't wait, after I am going to use the oven liners and maybe keep on top of it with oven pride.......

TerrifiedMothertobe · 14/03/2014 18:45

We get our range done professionally every 6/12 months. Worth every penny. Like a brand new oven.

ProfYaffle · 14/03/2014 18:53

We had it done once and I wasn't impressed. The oven door doesn't stay open by itself anymore, always swings shut which is a pain when I'm getting stuff out. Plus the clicky igniter thing stopped working and when I complained to the company the owner came to my house and got shirty with me which was quite intimidating.

gobbin · 14/03/2014 23:16

Can anybody recommend an oven cleaning company in Cardiff? I really fancy having this done. My oven door is naff, it has air holes at the top and liquids splash down in between the pane of glass. Do you think they could get down in between to clean it?

I have a range cooker small oven and big oven so was quoted for 2 ovens .iwanted the top done as well.no point in doing half a job.£150 and no receipt even offered.I paid cash .I bet that went straight through his books. However cooker ok .He was there a while and it is a pleasure to have a clean cooker but there is no way it is worth anywhere near that sort of money.Don't do it.He left me cards for friends etc binned right away.It is actually unbelievable that for no great effort that sort of money is called for I won't be doing it again .Your money would be better spent on a night out.

Aberchips · 04/06/2014 17:59

Oven Pride is brilliant. It got my filthy Blush seldom cleaned oven sparkling & all the racks as good as new. I hate any kind of oven/hob/extactor hood cleaning job & this was so little hassle I couldn't believe how great it was.
My cleaning lady swears by it as well.

ShirleyLang68 · 01/08/2014 12:16

Yes! I've tried several companies now and have to say the differences are significant - both in quality and prices. Some are really terrible if i've got to be honest. Some companies charge way too much even though they offer medium quality. I've been charged £100 for my double oven once and it was not a pleasant feeling. So yes, there is a real chance not to be impressed but that's not always the case. Till the moment i've tried four different companies myself. The last one offered cleaning on holidays and weekends which in my case (single mum with two kids) was very acceptable. The quality of the service was really good but the cleaner didn't explain much of it, even though i asked. However, i guess that's more down to the person or maybe a busy schedule. They've got a website www.maggiesovenservices.co.uk but i had to call them to get some additional info that i needed which is not a problem for me, but some people find it annoying.

jostevens · 05/08/2014 19:50

Personally, in order to save time and effort, I would choose a professional oven cleaner to have the job done. I mean, they are fast and efficient, aren't they? Well, actually it's trial and error - some companies do not provide the best quality service, other charge too much, while third ones leave a mess. It is always better to request the services of a well-known established brand, or recommended by a satisfied consumer. If both are present, this is the ideal situation. My mixed experience taught me to be careful, since I don't want to end up with a bugged oven. What I can say for sure, is that the last team I called in to help me with the greasy cooker did a really good job. I wasn't sure where it was going, since they literally took apart my precious cooker, but they explained this is the way to properly scrub off all surfaces. Plus, they work in Reading, dietstartsmonday, if you ever think of calling an oven cleaner in again. Their website www.cleanovenreading.co.uk is quite new, but you can find all services they offer, and, for the money charged, the quality of cleaning was more than okay.

hollyisalovelyname · 08/08/2014 21:18

No.
I was really impressed.

MorphineDreams · 08/08/2014 21:20

Not worth the money at all. OvenPride is brilliant.

When I moved into my apartment the oven was absolutely disgusting. It had not been cleaned. Ever. I know this because some fruit loop had put the rails in wrong so they didn't come out, I had to literally rip them out to put them in properly.

Oven Pride worked wonders though, was sparkling

SarahMayF · 02/09/2014 10:47

I know this thread hasn't been active for a few weeks but I was just looking for some advice on cleaning my oven when I found this - I had actually never thought of hiring someone else to do it! I hate cleaning my oven so much, I'm not sure why someone would want to do it for a living haha.

Are Ovenu good then? The one bad comment seemed more person specific - where are you based Columbo? Any other good experiences?

Oh and is this definitely the site? Looks so professional! www.ovenu.co.uk

Now to get my OH to part with some money before Christmas...I am NOT cooking Christmas dinner in a dirty oven! Not again!

ethelb · 09/09/2014 21:06

Yes, Several applicaitons of oven pride to my rented flat's oven and I am saving up for someone to come and do it for me.

JB130658 · 14/09/2014 15:19

Ovenclean are the best I think - www.ovenclean.com all their products are non caustic and they use no caustic in their vans either - very cost effective too

Thechef · 27/10/2014 16:15

Just adding my bit... Regarding elements and oven cleaning people, I can tell you that it's not the chemicals used, but the carbonated grease deposits that cause issues, Eg: overheating, less energy efficient.
Regular cleaning keeps your oven in a manageable condition which also means your oven remains energy efficient.
Good oven cleaners should inform you of any issues found whilst cleaning your oven like new seals, bulb replacements.
:-)

deborah192Heather · 24/11/2014 10:03

I used ovenclean.com too and it was amazing, all environmentally friendly chemicals too which if your pregnant is a definite plus

SamuelMiddleton · 16/04/2015 08:08

Hi, i want to share my experience with the London oven cleaners i have experience with. I hired a company which some of my friends hired in the past - www.fantasticovencleaners.co.uk/. They seem like a big company. The cleaners came with the equipment, the solutions and everything. They were on time, which i appreciate. The whole job took a bit more than an hour and a half. You can see the final results yourselves. The cleaners were nice, even though their English was not perfect but that's not really a problem for me.

Good: the oven is clean now, the price was good, everything works after them, they were nice
Bad: their English could be better. That would ease the communication.

Hello, I'm a professional cleaner for Cleaning Services Cleaners Ltd. www.cleaningservicescleaners.co.uk/ and I want to share some trick that I use when I have to clean an oven.
This is what you´ll need:
-Water
-Spray bottle
-Baking soda
-A rag
-Vinegar
-A small bowl

This is how you do it:

The oven:

  1. Remove the oven racks
  1. Mix a couple spoons of baking soda with some water in the bowl. The goal is to mix it into a paste that´s easily spreadable on the surfaces that need cleaning.
  1. Spread the paste on the inside of the oven. The baking soda will turn brown.
  1. Let sit over night. The baking soda will need at least 12 hours to work it`s magic.
  1. The day after: Take a wet rag and wipe out as much of the baking soda as possible.
  1. Put some vinegar in the spray bottle and spritz it on the surfaces where you still see residues of baking soda.
  1. Wipe with a wet rag.
  1. Put the racks back in to the oven.
  1. Turn on the oven on a low temperature for 15-20 minutes to let it dry.

I recently used a industrial oven cleaning substance used to clean silver in ovens. It looks like rock salt you mix it with water and wipes off after a few minutes. Unfortunately like a do do I didn't rinse the cloth properly i used in the oven to clean off solution. I have unfortunately got it on my counter tops and can't get it off. I feel like a real twit.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
