Anyone got a professional oven cleaner in and NOT been impressed?

So, those professional oven cleaner people - like ovenu and so on. Are they really worth the money? I have been pondering getting one in - just moved house and the oven needs some attention. It's not too horrendous - I mean, it's basically clean, but it's discoloured with baked-on stuff and looks like it's had a long time of only being cleaned superficially.

I can't face the idea of doing it myself, too pregnant and too tired. DH says "oh I'll do it", but I know he won't. He'll intend to, but he won't. But at the same time, I can't help but think it's silly to pay someone else to do it when we really should be able to do it ourselves. I suppose I'm just wondering if the results would be much better than we'd get ourselves?

I have no grime on my burners. I wipe them over after every use and stick the bits in the dishwasher once every couple of weeks.

Halo

I got my mum's done for her birthday (it was what she wanted!) and it was incredible. Looked like a new oven (and it was grim before) and only cost £40. Well worth it.

DomesticBlobess · 06/10/2008 21:39

Had mine done - oven very clean - but they took the door off and apart to clean it and part of it never went back right despite numerous visits to try to fix it. I'd think twice to be honest - for us it just caused lots of hassle.

Hi all,
I was thinking of getting an oven cleaner in as my oven smokes horrifically every time I use it and has done since we moved in but I didn't do it and now its overdue!! I havre a young son so am conscious to avoid fumes from the oven!! Has anyone who has done a DIY job also managed to clean the element?, or that curly bit on top as I believe this has been splashed with fat a million times before we even moved into this flat and thus definitely needs cleaning/replacing?! Any advice for a complete novice in this matter?

Bloodredrubyblue · 19/10/2011 13:09

I have tried Ovenpride and was very, very unimpressed and I booked the guy from Ovenu. Stunning service. The oven and hob looked brand new and sparkling and there was no way I could have got that result myself.

Everything is dismantled (even the light fittings) and plunged into huge tanks for about three hours. I would never have dared to do that and take off doors and knobs etc etc.

I am a huge fan.

Beaverfeaver · 20/10/2011 18:51

I tried oven pride when moved into out house as it looked like the oven had never been cleaned.

It wasn't good enough and was a right faff to do, so got the professional out.

So glad I did. Well worth it.

Hi, all , I wish I'd found this site two years ago when I was very low and a new single dad, any how I am starting a new oven cleaning business my self very soon and I will hopefully advertise on here and be one of the good guys. I wont be telling my life story on the job thats for sure lol. Please wish me luck.

anniewoo · 16/10/2012 21:34

I was well impressed with the company who did mine. Well worth it.

abigailross1984 · 30/03/2013 16:23

Hi all,
I am looking to hire professional oven cleaning company but I am still in doubt if it's worth the money. I was quoted £70 isn't that too much? [buhmm]

CandyCrushed · 30/03/2013 20:21

I bought a self cleaning oven and saved myself the trouble of worrying about cleaning it. I didn't like the oven cleaning companies.

Sorry, not at all helpful

armagh · 30/03/2013 20:34

Was really pleased with the results

HollyBollyBooBoo · 30/03/2013 21:19

I think if I ever get made redundant this is clearly the line of work to go into - charge between 40 and 90 quid, less 4 quid for a bottle of oven pride = some serious profit!!

KatyTheCleaningLady · 31/03/2013 15:25

Holly, they don't use Oven Pride. They have tanks of chemicals heated in their vans, and they dismantle the oven to soak the components.

I gather that the money isn't all that great, either.

BrunellaPommelhorse · 31/03/2013 15:28

mine is better than sex

Mrsrobertduvall · 31/03/2013 15:30

I love my local oven cleaning company.
Best £80 ever spent...I get them in 3 times a year.
They don't use special chemicals...astonish and lots of elbow grease.takes him 3 hours to do double oven, shelves, grill pan, hob and extractor.

dottygamekeeper · 31/03/2013 15:35

One of my oven has stay clean liners- sort of grey speckledy colour, which you are not supposed to use chemicals on. However, they have gone slightly brown, and will not wipe clean. Does anyone know if one of the oven cleaning services can deal with this, or would a steam clean do it?

Cantbelieveitsnotbutter · 31/03/2013 15:47

I wasn't impressed, but its an electric cooker so only the oven 'needed' doing. It was nicer then doing it myself with all the horrid chemicals though

turkeyboots · 31/03/2013 15:51

My local oven cleaner man cost £40 to do my oven and job. It was brilliant.

turkeyboots · 31/03/2013 15:52

Hob! Stupid autocorrect.

carolineken · 27/05/2013 11:43

I used a great company for my flat after tenants moved out - www.fantasticcleaners.com. They were brilliant. I was horrified at what my tenants had done to the flat and couldn't believe the amazing results. So, I'd recommend them every time.

Jergens · 28/05/2013 06:37

I had someone in to clean the oven when I was pregnant, I was SO impressed that I posted on MN as soon as he left. Cost me less than £50.

MrsBungle · 28/05/2013 07:00

I had it done. Cost £40. It was sparkling when he finished. He had all the extractor hood off and cleaned. I used a local guy.

littlebean2000 · 31/05/2013 15:51

Me and my mum both used a company called OverOvenClean, from just outside Cambridge. They are a husband and wife team, really nice people and they said that they don't use any caustic or corrosive chemicals at all. www.overovenclean.co.uk ,give them a try. We use them twice a year and our ovens look like brand new afterwards.

Clareriley · 15/06/2013 18:16

I used Oven Wizards in Maidstone. Was really really impressed! I think they charged about £50 for the double oven and it looked like new. Had the in laws coming round so didn't want them thinking I was a sloppy wife :-)

I was just going to use them that one but don't think I will go back to doing it myself again!!!
