Is there a de-scaling treatment for washing machines, like you get for kettles?

a one treatment thing, or some quick treatments, as despite maintance washing etc, my machine is scaling up.

I have seen one in Sainsburys but not sure of the name. It was in the washing powder isle

never needed to before, but this machine is succumbing to the dreaded limescale.

but yes will be getting the calgon this week for it.

I live in a very soft water area (absolutely no limescale on kettle ect), would I still need to use Calgon?

Yes. Klar. Try asking for it in a hardware store.

I just got some tablets from Aldi, sheaper than Calgon. Not used them yet, so don't know how goos they are

My goodness woman, how have you got to the age you are without seeing the Calgon adverts on the telly?!

I used its dishwasher equivalent once, and it wrecked my dishwasher. It was the limescale that was holding the heating element together!

I think that Calgon only helps with elimminating the lime scale build up, rather than actually getting rid of it if its gone a bit too far... its v expensive and i don't use it. I should, as I live in v hard water area. kettle pops and rattles all the time!

Anway, there are products which can be used as a once only immediate effect, but i'm so sorry, I can't remember the names... more than one on market though...

That calgon advert really bugs me. Its jingle, is now jingling round my blardy head... washing machines live longer with Calgon... just incase it's not in your head... it is now!

I've managed to avoid the Calgon advert by not watching adverts on telly, so nobody start humming the tune at me! But when I had to buy some in my little local supermarket I nearly fell over at the price. I buy water-softening tablets at Lidl, and they seem to do the job fine. I am taking particular care of my new Bosch, a replacement last year for my Zanussi, which finally keeled over at the grand old age of 22, and hardly ever saw water-softener in all its long and faithful service . I was surprised to find that the new machine washes noticeably better, and the clothes don't come out so creased though it spins faster. And of course it uses a lot less water. So not everything was better back in the day. But whether the Bosch will beat the Zanussi for longevity I doubt.
