just wondering as i have saved everything worth saving since dd was 18 months. i have booked her into nursery for extra days next week to sort out the boxes the clothes are stored in.possibly having another girl early new year. will i really use it?

Another boring 'yes of course' here. Please could someone come on and say 'no, I wouldn't dream of it' then we can all jump on you?

What about pants? DS2 is still in nappies but I am keeping DS1's old pants - is that gross?

Lizzylou · 10/07/2008 20:24

Yes, wherever possible
Almost exactly 2 years between them, so clothes are right "season for size".

bluenosesaint · 10/07/2008 20:25

Absolutely - i have three girls and love seeing dd3 in dd1's old clothes (that have very often belonged to dn(neice) and her cousin too!!

I have no problem passing down pants either - they all get washed!

My older dd's have a 'joint' sock drawer too because they're only two sizes different and its impossible to keep track of which socks belong to which child!

MuffinMclay · 10/07/2008 20:27

Erm, yes. Have bought a few extra bits for ds2 because of seasonal differences (didn't have any summer clothes in sizes ds2 would need).

I did give away all my newborn and 0-3 month stuff when ds1 was about 3 months old thinking 'I'm NEVER doing that again'.

biglips · 10/07/2008 20:28

i have washed all DD's clothes age from 0 - 3 yrs old. I do hope im having another girl which im due in 9weeks time

hifi · 10/07/2008 20:28

well it saved me a fortune on all those clothes

hunkermunker · 10/07/2008 20:31

I occasionally buy something new for DS2 as he is the spit of DS1 and it'll be nice if we can tell them apart in photos in a decade or so, but DS2 generally wears old DS1 clothes. DS1 kept things pristine, so that was handy.

Yes i did from my dd - i had a ds next and he wears her coat now at 20 months but in fairness it was a boys one i bought her but it was more unisex imho. He also sleeps in a pink gro bag from time to time which was a bit embarrasing when we took him to a and e one midnight with croupe and they said they couldnt find 'her' on the system!! Also when he goes up a size in sleepsuits and were running short he has some lovely next pink stripey ones - hes man enough to carry it of though !

talilac · 10/07/2008 20:44

Oh yes.

Save everything that is still in decent condition, even if you hated it on DC1. I have 2 with very different colourings and what looked great on DD1 looks rotten on DD2 and vice versa!

However, I found that there were a few key things that I used to dress DD1 in a lot that I just couldn't put DD2 in, even though they would have looked fine. No idea why, one of those things.

Will mean those items will stay nice for cousins etc I guess..

DiscoDizzy · 10/07/2008 20:46

yes of course, exactly 2 yrs between DD's. Only if in good condition though. We do buy clothes that match DD2 whose style is a little more unique than DD1's

sagacious · 10/07/2008 20:48

Yes
DD is currently in ds's spiderman pj's.

Mercy · 10/07/2008 20:50

Never mind clothes, ds was the 8th child to use a cot that had been passed around (cot was about 40 years old by the time he was born)

And dd was pushed around/slept in an ancient-looking Silver Cross pram by her Great Aunt when we stayed with her (huge wheels, metal body - it was great)

CarGirl · 10/07/2008 20:51

you need to rewash and dry all the clothes before assessing them for stains etc as they reappear whilst in storage but most of the m will dissapear when you wash them - strange but true.

sweetkitty · 10/07/2008 20:53

oh yes 18 months apart both girls, only problem is they are age 2-3 and 3-4 now so DD2 recognises DD1's clothes and won't wear them saying they are DD1's.

I also buy two of the same things in different sizes though so DD2 has the same thing in 2 sizes.

expatinscotland · 10/07/2008 20:53

I do! Just spent a couple of days washing and putting together all Dd1's clothes that she's outgrown but are ready for Dd2 to use now and in the next couple of years.

Shoes, too.

I don't throw away clothes, even ones from Primark , and take pride in and put effort into the laundry so clothes stay in good condition for as long as possible.

misdee · 10/07/2008 20:55

yes.

some of the clothes i got out from stoarge were dd1's clothes. they have been used for every dd, and will be used for dd4 as well.

misdee · 10/07/2008 20:57

was discussing with dh if it was worth keeping the 6-9month fleeces and jumpers (loads of them as dd3 was in them her first winter) as if dd4 was small as well then they would fit in the height of summer. he did point out we could have another bigun like dd2 was though, so have kept them.

Litterbug · 10/07/2008 20:58

Im all set to use it on my 3rd!

expatinscotland · 10/07/2008 20:58

thank you

[ends hi-jack]

colditz · 10/07/2008 20:59

Oh yes, and you will love seeing your youngest in the clothes your first child wore.

CarGirl · 10/07/2008 21:00

I haven't passed much of dd2's stuff to dd3 because dd2 & dd4 are a much better match in build of the body - very very slim so that's quite nice in a way because nearly all clothes are 2nd-4th hand but each child seems to have a unique combination IYSWIM. I just wish I got stuff given for dd1 still, hardly happens once they reach 9ish
