just wondering as i have saved everything worth saving since dd was 18 months. i have booked her into nursery for extra days next week to sort out the boxes the clothes are stored in.possibly having another girl early new year. will i really use it?

I have a little checked shirt which was my favourite when I was about 4 - I think it had been passed down from my DB1 (it buttons boys' side)through DB1 & my sister. I then put it on my large teddy & it stayed there for about 20 years till my sister had kids & was then worn by DN1 & DN2 in turn. She passed it back to me & DS & DD both wore it. I did consider passing it on to SIL, who has 4 kids, but I thought she might chuck it, so it's still in a drawer upstairs.

Got lost of hand me downs from my Sister's little boy, he is a year older than ds. So very handy! Nothing wrong with it.

meep · 10/07/2008 19:56

I'm saving mine - and she already has bags of clothes from her counsins so some of them have already been through 3 little girls!

claricebeansmum · 10/07/2008 19:56

'Tis a vintage shirt now Rusty - very retro and desirable!

LIZS · 10/07/2008 19:59

of course - even reused a lot of ds' for dd but she got rather more fussy at around 4 about wearing boyish things. Still reused a lot of his jeans (added the odd flowery patch) with girly top and vice versa, especially for preschool.

ChippyMinton · 10/07/2008 20:01

yes of course. DD (4)'s favourite dress is about to go back to its original owner (now 22) who spotted DD wearing it and has baggsied it for herself in case she has a daughter

Tutter · 10/07/2008 20:02

yes

but not always possible as they are such different shapes

ds1 tall and very skinny - teeny around the waist

ds2 fat stout

so ds2 wears ds1's 3/4 length trousers as full length trousers, but can't get into his full length trousers, iykwim

I would have unerstood the question if it was Does anyone actually NOT reuse clothes for their next child..
I thought everyone does (if gender approproate)

chutneymary · 10/07/2008 20:03

Absolutely - I had forgotten a lot of it, so it was like new! DDs are 2 years less 2 weeks apart so seasonally perfect.

Am pg again, but only a year and half gap so the seasons are all wrong, unless I layer things. If it's a boy I have nothing. He'd better get used to pink.

Tinker · 10/07/2008 20:03

I do and there's an 8 year gap between mine!

Idobelieveinfairies · 10/07/2008 20:03

ohhhh yesssss!

next clothes are great for that, they wash really well and don't really go out of fashion.

hannahsaunt · 10/07/2008 20:05

Gosh yes. 90% of what ds3 is wearing has come via ds1 and ds2. It's one of my excuses for buying lovely Boden and the like for ds1 because it washes and wears so well; the passing down factor is huge in good clothes.

Slubberdegullion · 10/07/2008 20:06

Of course. We have an Osh Kosh dress that is currently in use by its 4th little girl (used by 3 girls pre being given to dd1). I fully expect dd2 to be wearing it next year.

Its wearing exceptionally well.

[post not sponsered by Osh kosh]

itati · 10/07/2008 20:07

I did. Some things have been used for 2 children, some for 3.

ivykaty44 · 10/07/2008 20:09

I have brought my dd2 clothes, um

1 sleep suit with winnie the pooh on it because it was cute.

2 sleep suits from M&S ( this was a while ago)

A party outfit from H&M dress and cape in lovely claret material.

A wedding outfit from Monsoon, pink dress with cream wool jacket with boa and sparkle shoes

Variuos tights, socks and pants along with shoes.

2 swim suits

2 pairs of trousers in carrefour

school coat with inner fleece

Thats it I think - she is now 9 and I am comming to the end of clothes stowed away in the attic that were her older sisters. I have also had friends give me clothes and have excepted them and either passed them back or handed them on again.

dd2 loves looking in the attic for another batch of clothes

I always put the clothes away in age, season control to make it easier to get them down and washed ready for the season and age group

wilbur · 10/07/2008 20:10

Oh yes, and ds2 wore dd's pink sleepsuits. He looked delightful in them.

thisisyesterday · 10/07/2008 20:10

yes definitely

Pretty difficult as I have a girl and a boy.

But I do pass on their clothes

Anything that's not falling apart gets passed down to DS2.
I've just dug out all DS1's old school uniform for DS2, who's starting reception in September.
Is it ok to recycle DS1's plimsolls? Given that DS2 will only wear them for about an hour a week?

RustyBear · 10/07/2008 20:17

It's the one DS was wearing in this picture.
I just looked at the label & it says 'Empire Made' When did we last have an empire? 1948?

LyraSilvertongue · 10/07/2008 20:17

I pass down pants too. As long as they're clean, what's the problem?
