How do I get rid of smell of burning?

I made a cake for DH's birthday but it overflowed onto the oven. Just used oven to cook DCs tea - now the whole house smells! Any ideas how to get rid of smell (can't clean oven til it cools down).

Open the windows?

I did this last week and the smell is vile, it did fade eventually though. I expect it'll have gone by the morning.
