The inside of my washing machine is smelling. It smells damp and musty - I have done an empty wash with powder in, and cleaned the seal around the door, but is still pongs!

Any bright ideas from the wiser MNers?? It is only 2 years old!

do a very hot quick wash with nothing in - put vinegar in the conditioner bit.

That should help.

Right - doing that now! Will report back later!

Also after a wash leave the door open, don't close it until the next time you wash. This worked for my machine.

Do you close the door inbetween washes, if so leave it open to dry out.

Great minds think alike

I do generaly keep the dor open, but have to shut it sometimes to sop my 16 mo from trapping his fingers in it - he thinks it is another toy for him to mess with!

Mine (washing machine) gets a bit whiffy and I did a 90 degree wash with only soda crystals and cleaned the seal with miltons. Oh and cleaned the powder drawer and compartment with a toothbrush.
I think you have to do it once a month to keep it really smell free.
Mine looks a bit yuck at the moment, so better take my own advice soon. [bleuch face]

I tried lots of things with my stinky drum - the only thing that worked was physically scrubbing the seal out. It made a big difference.

madamez · 28/06/2008 00:00

OK what do I clean mine with? It has all grolly spots on. And BTW I am a bit bothered about the rubber ring which looks unwell - can you buy new ones?

I did not have a built in washing machine before so I do not really understand them, and I keep the door closed on the whole to stop DS swinging on it.

sorry

You can get the seal replaced, but it's a bit expensive - my old washer started to leak and I think I paid around 70 quids to have the seal replaced.
If the door is closed, I should think you will find spots and stuff unavoidable, a bit like a switched-off fridge. Tricky one though, if you don't want the door broken by the tiny one.
Not sure about cleaning rubber successfully, I wonder if lemon would work??? [thoughtful face]
