Our integrated talk fridge freezer is slowly packing up which, after 15 years, I’ll forgive it for. It isn’t actually a fridge freezer but a fridge with an big ice box at the top which has room for some frozen veg, ice cubes and, when the DC were little, chicken nuggets and breast cooking pads. It’s been brilliant. As I said though, it’s 15yrs old, so needs have changed somewhat. We have another fridge in the garage (which is essentially a drinks fridge) and a tall freezer as well. I can now nip in & out of the garage without worrying that the children are inadvertently going to kill themselves or intentionally kill or maim the other and the DC can nip in & out too, whether being sent by me to grab something or getting their own stuff when cooking. So I don’t think we necessarily need the freezer bit any more. This would give us more fridge space and DC1 commented that this might mean we could always keep some bottles of water in the fridge. We all prefer drinking chilled water but, at the moment, there just isn’t the space. This then got me thinking as to whether we could actually have a water dispenser but, as it’s on the opposite wall of the kitchen to the water supply, it would have to be one of those ones you top up yourself rather than plumbed in.
What are they like? Does it affect the taste of the water? Is it a hassle re-filling it? Is it as easy for me to keep re-filling the bottles?
Also, this would obviously then be freestanding rather than integrated. Does that matter?
Anything else I haven’t thought of?
