Opinions on Smol, Neat, Bower and other refill cleaning products

TheBarberaGoodLife · 10/06/2026 20:12

Looking for peoples opinions on Smol/ Neat/ Bower or any other refill / more natural cleaning products please.
I’m looking to try but I keep confusing myself on which ones to try. Any recommendations? Or any to avoid?

Many thanks

I've got smol on the go at the moment but I preferred the sesi refill where I had to go and actually refill the bottle at a local shop:

Thank you. Do you use the washing or dishwasher stuff?

I tried one of the Neat sprays. The spray trigger stopped working after one refill.

Oh. That’s not good for a refillable product

We use bower for laundry detergent, softer, washing up liquid and a cleaner, but mostly use old bottles as theirs aren't v good. The products are good though.

AlphabetCucumber · 10/06/2026 21:37

We use Neat for hand wash, bathroom cleaner and floor cleaner and it’s great. The smells are very strong but pleasant. No issues with the spray bottles. I get it from Ocado. We used Smol dishwasher and washing tablets and didn’t find them very good at all.

We have a refill business in the village who we use for toilet cleaner, washing up liquid, white vinegar and (all Miniml brand). Those are also great.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 10/06/2026 21:40

We used smol liquid laundry tablets for a while but discovered that they weren’t fully dissolving when the outlet pipe got blocked with the residue.

Happily back using the big cardboard boxes of powder now.

All our laundry and cleaning comes from Frenchosps. Natural and traditional and works really well, also cheap for how long the products last

Brilliant thank you. I’m taking a look now. Which items / scents are best. I do ALOT of washing so want something that works but also doesn’t bankrupt me 😂

Oh that is interesting about the laundry tablets. I use the fussy hand wash, shower gel & deodorant which I love. That was the thing with Smol when you order they send hand wash but I didn’t need it. I’ll have another look at Neat. We have refill shops which I use and we get our veg delivered from a local greengrocer and meat from our local butcher. Just cleaning products that needs to stock up on now 👌🏻

We use smol hand-wash, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, bathroom spray, general spray, mirror spray, non bio liquid, stain remover gel & occasionally fabric softener. The sprays and hand washes are the best imo.
We're a very busy household and having a glass jar full of the spray tabs so I can refill as and when needed is perfect. I also have a couple of Purdy & Figg spray bottles on the go for the less intensive cleaning jobs as i adore their scents! Only buy those on offer though whereas we've subscribed to smol.

PercyPigsAreOverRated · 11/06/2026 00:11

I use smol washing up liquid (o used to use the dishwasher tabs but dishwasher broke), handwash and multi-surface cleaner.*

They only send you hand-wash if you've ordered it! Other than in the trial pack.

I loved the smell of the washing tabs but can't afford them. Plus I was told powder was best for the machine.

*Actually I think it's the bathroom cleaner, not the multi surface one

That's exactly what I love about it. I buy the fragrance free Soap Flakes. I think they say a £15 bag lasts 300 washes, TBH I've never counted but they do last a very long time.
I also like the litres of Black Soap, I then dilute it and use it for everything. The glass cleaner is fantastic. I buy the bar soaps for the shower ( I like the Bleu Jaune brand, Rosseau brand and Fer a Cheval brand). I haven't tried the liquid hand soaps but I do trust everything from here!

Looking up stockists for this led me down a rabbit hole and I ended up finding a huge zero waste shop nearby so that’s fantastic. Can get all my normal ‘non fresh food’ items there. So thank you 🤩

Ah ok. I liked the look of the cleaning products and dishwasher tablets. Then someone else said they don’t dissolve properly. 😖

Sorry for being daft. Do I have to make up a solution with the flakes and then use that each time? Also there’s a few different fragrance free ones - do you have a link at all
please?

or

Yes, I dilute them. A handful in two litre of boiling water, then when it's cooled I pour it into an old detergent container. You need to shake before you use but just a slurp in the machine and it washes really well.

I buy Miniml stuff. I like their products and the prices are reasonable.
I've also bought OceanSaver tabs for cleaning sprays before which I got in normal supermarkets for ease. Their sprays are nice.

That's exactly the problem we had with Smol. I was not impressed at all.

dementedpixie · 11/06/2026 21:12

I tried the starter pack of smol items. The foaming handwash seemed to leave sticky residue on your hands and the cleaning spray left my floor a bit slippy when I tried to clean up a spill with it. The stain remover was messy to fill the dispenser. The dishwasher tabs/washing machine pods were ok but I prefer laundry powder so wouldn't use pods in my washing machine all the time. I cancelled all my subscriptions with no regrets

Neat are good
I like the smol laundry capsules but stopped using them as i prefer powder.
Their dishwasher tablets and cleaning sprays are good.
Also tried homethings but didn’t think they were as good - worth getting if you get a good introductory offer though.
Also like raindrop hand wash.
