After many decades with my mum’s old ironing board I am rebelling. It was payday a few days ago. Sell me your top, smooth gliding, easy action, cushioned beauties. NB I am tall.

Couldn’t tell you where my ironing board is, let alone what make it is… true rebels don’t iron!

I still use my mums decades old ironing board too, at least a couple of times a year. She put a new cover on it maybe 40 years ago, which probably came from John Lewis. Seems to work ok. I also sometimes just put a towel on the floor and that works ok too. I also just don’t care that much about wearing clothes that are a bit wrinkled, and that’s the one that works best for me.

ETA: my inherited ironing board is wooden and I wouldn’t be surprised if my dad had made it.

I bought the best one in Argos 30 years ago and it’s still going strong. Have replaced the cover once but it could do with a refresh

For work shirts I have my Dh's grandmother's wooden ironing board complete with chain underneath so it can be adjusted, its has about 4 covers on it😂. It is so sturdy compared to flimsy modern ones. I've had it 33 years

Also have a Fastpress which is permanently set up in its own spot. If you have the room for one they are an absolute godsend.

Brabantia ironing board D. I iron religiously and this is still going strong 17/18yrs later! Just covers have needed to be replaced.

Brabantia - I have size B

crazytiredrn · 04/05/2026 17:46

Brabantia, I absolutely love it! Expensive but absolutely worth it

I just bought a joseph joseph which is compact but is also got a good for tall people

Another vote for Brabantia.

I decided to “invest” in a robust ironing board after my rickety 25yo one broke its last application of duct tape to hold the legs in place.
The thing is so wide and heavy I can barely set it up.
Not a great choice.
Everything depends on a surface your iron will glide across. Vileda does a grey semi metallic one I can recommend.

Sgtmajormummy · 04/05/2026 23:05

FWIW it was a Colombo XL ironing board I don’t recommend.

i have a brabantia. I bought my first one about 25 years ago, and replaced it a year or so ago. Ours is used a lot. I replace the cover every couple of years, but I should probably just wash it. It’s really sturdy.

Stilltame · 07/05/2026 19:59

I’ve got the Joseph Joseph one.
it great , and you can mount it to the wall.
folds easy and height adjustable.
i saved up for it (Yes, sad I know) but I would really recommend it

I'm tall too. The one I have is a M and S one and it's perfect! Have had it years, doesn't give me backache! It goes up to above waist height. I'm 5'11".
