Vacuum that isn’t Henry?

Was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a vacuum cleaner that isn’t a Henry? Adore my Henry but it’s so heavy and clunky and my back isn’t great anymore so without me already dreading doing upstairs I’m finding it more difficult. I’d it just a ridiculous thought to think I can find something with amazing suction that’s light too? Have kids, dog and cat. Dog sheds a decent amount but not the worst I’ve ever seen! Thanks!

Just bought a Dyson - V11 and I’m delighted with it.

I haven’t had a plug in vacuum for years, so if you’re used to a Henry it will be life changing. So light, amazing suction. Takes up no space to store. Charges quickly. No bags to replace.

I recommend anything by miele. they are the best on my opinion. I don't get the love for Henry. my mil has one and I borrowed it when my old miele packed up. it was frigging useless no suction at all and I even changed the bag. I have pets so need good suction was very quick going out to buy my new miele hoover

Love my Vax. It has amazing suction and isn't too heavy!

TheKateColumbo · 30/01/2026 20:35

I love my Miele but I also love my cordless Henry.

I was wandering around the electrical shop today and looking at vacuum cleaners and the guy was hoovering with a Dyson so I kind of followed him😅 It looked good!

wexone I found the suction great but it’s like lugging bricks about but … TheKateColumbo

a cordless Henry?! I think I’d seen that in mn before but must check it out!

PinkLemonadee
will check it out!!!

I love the idea of cordless but out house is so dirty I don’t know whether they could handle it!!

I have a shark with the lift away function and I love it. The lift away is sooooo good for going upstairs and not having to lug the whole thing with you. I had a Miele for years and it was good but so clunky and I dreaded having to do upstairs!

Helpmechooseausername · 30/01/2026 20:44

I'd love a Henry but all the ones I know smell of sick!

Fifiellz · 30/01/2026 21:12

Miele Cat & Dog is the best hoover i’ve ever had. Also got a Henry that I can’t use anymore for similar reasons to you. Was a bit more expensive but worth it.

MsWilmottsGhost · 30/01/2026 21:34

I hate my fucking Miele. I bought it as everyone on MN seemed to rave about them, and DH wanted one as MIL loves hers. Suction is good but it's so damn heavy I'm exhausted dragging it around, and its a stupid squarish shape that gets stuck on every door frame and corner. Plus the on/off button is very sensitive and it turns itself off all the time (e.g. when stuck in a doorframe). Plus it's a nightmare to get the dog hair out of the head. Arrgh 😫

I hate it so much and I dread the hoovering. Luckily it is starting to fall apart so I can justify buying a new vacuum.

Ideally I'd like a lightweight battery one again.

Same.

A very expensive top of the range dyson is also very good.

HelenHywater · 30/01/2026 21:38

The miele cat and dog is brilliant but agree that it's really heavy. I really don't enjoy lugging it upstairs.

Fixesplease · 30/01/2026 21:41

I absolutely love my Shark Pet lift away one, nothing has came close to shifting thw pet hair off of carpets like it and Ive had my fair share over the years.
The lift away bit is great as them its not me lugging about a heavy hoover up the stairs!

OhDear111 · 30/01/2026 21:48

We have a vacuum kept upstairs. No lugging here. Miele household.

MamaBobo · 30/01/2026 21:48

We have a Sebo…it’s 20 years old now and still going as well as it did when we bought it. The build quality is so superior to the Dyson we had before. They do cordless now so when it does finally give up the ghost we will look at the cordless ones…but I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another Sebo or recommend them.

Mrsknowitall · 30/01/2026 21:51

I’m a cleaner so use a wide range of clients hoovers and the Miele is by far the best

I hate our Miele. It's only a basic one and doesn't pick up fluff or thread ( I sew) from carpet.
I've thought about buying the hair attachment but not convinced it will help.

mine is the pet one. my sis has the black one and so does my own mother.
maybe every single one different 🤷‍♀️

CluelessAboutBiology · 30/01/2026 22:24

Like @Leafywool and @Fixespleasei have a Shark Liftaway with pet tool. I chose it because my friend had one and said it was really good.

Matildahoney · 30/01/2026 22:27

I know someone who has a cordless Hetty after their original Henry broke and they love it

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 30/01/2026 23:01

Shark downstairs and Dyson upstairs

Morepositivemum · 04/02/2026 17:31

Thanks everyone- mad with the Miele, was talking to someone today and she said she adored her Miele, then the lady beside us said ‘oh god I couldn’t keep quiet, Miele is the worst!’ So still thinking but I have a good list! (Two friends have told me Dyson isn’t worth it by the way while another with a similar set up to me adores it!)

I know people on MN hate Dyson, but I have a cordless one for animal hair and I think it's great. I have a bad back and it's really light to carry around.

Sandcaaarstle · 04/02/2026 20:50

I agree with previous comments re Vax liftaway. I’ve had mine about 14 months now and it’s amazing. Knocks the socks off all my past Dysons.

It gets under beds and sofas, I lift the main bit off to hoover my laminate flooring (it makes it really light so doesn’t mark or scratch) it’s really easy get the wand thing off and it’s a button at hand height to switch between wood and carpet.

It’s almost like it’s been designed by someone who has actually used a hoover!!

Oh, and the suction is incredible too. Best boring appliance I’ve bought in years.

Which version? I have had a Sebo for nearly twenty years and it’s still going. Unfortunately it’s too heavy for me now. I hate hoovers that have long tubes and are heavy to push around. I prefer upright hoovers but lugging them up stairs is too hard now. I don’t like Henrys either.
