Can you imagine/do you not have a sofa in your home?

I go to my parents and they don’t have a sofa, only a living room with armchairs. I always feel more relaxed lying on the sofa than sitting on the chairs, but sometimes think about getting rid of the sofa in my flat/getting a two seater instead that I’m too tall to lie on, to free up space. I notice most people at least have small sofas? :)

We recently only had armchairs for a short period of time. Now I’m back to sofas it is much better, and my dogs prefer the sofas too!

I can't manage without my sofa, if I didn't have one I'd be upstairs lying on my bed all the time. I have a four seater L shaped sofa and an armchair, my house is quite small.

My aunt only had 2 armchairs when I was growing up so it’s not unusual to me. Couldn’t not have one myself, I need somewhere to nap and my kids need an item of furniture to fling themselves at every waking minute.

God no! Not only do we have sofas, we make sure they’re comfy too - my ILs have always managed to buy really uncomfortable sofas, they just sit there like it’s a bus rather than a
comfy seat … ug! I need comfort!

We only had armchairs when I was a child - I think it was because there was an (upright) piano in the living room so that took the wall space. But the parents had footstools.
DH likes lying on a sofa but I generally prefer to sit and use a footstool.

We only had armchairs when I was growing up. I have a sofa now but never sit on it.

This has reminded me of my nana - in her lounge that she used day to day she had 3 armchairs - they were the upright ‘old person’ armchairs - and a small dining room table. When we visited us kids had to sit on the floor when we all watched tv of an evening. Then she had a larger room - the posh lounge that had 2 huge sofas in it but nobody was ever allowed in 🤣 Even she never used it! 🤷🏽‍♀️😂

We don't own a single armchair. 4 sofas in the sitting room, and an L shaped sofa in another room. If we did have armchairs, I think I would need a foot stool.

My granny only had armchairs. I do like an armchair and we have one too, but we also have a sofa.

@IAmKerplunk my nan’s was the same. We used the one with the settees in once at Christmas one year for photos 🤣

We had a two seater and two armchairs for years. We now have a 6 seater corner sofa. I love it. The bigger the better, in my opinion!

Ineedanewsofa · 31/12/2025 17:35

My parents had a ‘sofa’ in the 90s when we were kids but it was this weird wood and leather creation with bucket seats so basically conjoined armchairs - they only had it 18 months because it was so weird not to have a proper sofa 🤣

The only time we were allowed in was when we helped my mum put a new carpet down - to replace the already immaculate carpet because nobody ever went in there! 🤣

We now have 4 sofas and 3 armchairs. One of the sofas is for the dogs.

Initially when we moved in we only had a mismatch of chairs and I really missed having a sofa to lounge on.

BecauseofyouIlearntnottotrust · 31/12/2025 17:54

@IAmKerplunk love it 🤣🤣
