Ambient mildew/mould smell in my bedroom

There's a mouldy smell in my room that I can't pin down. I can't always smell it, but my partner, who has asthma, can and has stopped sleeping in here because the air makes him wheezy!

We only redecorated 3 years ago, had new windows, pipes, walls, etc installed. The house was gutted. I don't know where it's coming from or what I can do about it?

I have the heating on several times a day and I open all the windows every morning.

No other room has this issue.

I'm in here with my 6 month old baby, so quite worried.

Has it got more than one external wall ? Is there a gutter / downpipe installed outside?

Following as we’re exactly the same! Although my husband can’t smell it so I feel I’m going insane. He thinks (even though he can’t smell it), it’s to do with the en-suite.
I really don’t know though.
We also get really misty windows in the am at this time of year.

Hard to say without being there, op.
Have you tried a dehumidifier. That would show how much water it collects.
What about a damp meter to try on the walls? You can hire one, or buy one.
I think some energy companies will lend them out as well, so you could check with your supplier.

Have you checked behind furniture? Under your mattress could be mouldy?

The mattress is new. We only bought it in February! But no I haven't looked under it. Will check.

Just one external wall. There's a gutter obviously, we've not checked it. Maybe I'll climb outside when it's dry and check.

Do you have furniture up against exterior walls? We had a wardrobe against an exterior wall which developed mildew behind it.

There is a bedside cabinet snugly next to the wall. I just moved it away and can't see any mould, just lots of dust. There was a whiff of mildew there but I pulled the drawers etc out and there's nothing there.

Has something spilled/ been kicked over next to the bed and the liquid has gone underneath ( if it’s a divan bed) .

It is an ottoman actually, but I don't think anything has been spilt unless I'm not aware?

I cleared the room majorly today and had my nose to all the furniture etc, still couldn't pinpoint the source.

I cleared absolutely everything off the floor, hoovered and aired the room and started putting my heating on more frequently.

One or more of these things did the trick, I can't smell mildew any more.

I never found a mouldy patch anywhere.
