My energy company has advised me that my Electric meter has come to the end of it's life? They will need to fit a Smart meter?

They have tried everything to make me have one installed!
Has anyone been advised, that their electric meter needs replacement?

I am aware that the Smart energy meters have been unreliable,
or just not working as they should?

Has anyone on Mumsnet had a smart meters installed either Electric/Gas, would you recommend having them fitted?

I am not happy, having our electric meter replaced, I like to send readings every month. Knowing how much I have used, how much I owe?

When I have had issues with my bills for electric & gas, its usually due to the energy company's not reading the meter for months.

What are your thoughts, either good or bad?

Thanks in advance!

I think the meter is the property of the electric company. So really it's up to them if they upgrade it. The vast majority of smart meters work fine, and you clearly have a good idea of your usage so you would soon spot a problem.

Yes I'm in this position too. They've been badgering me for almost two years. At first I put them off because my husband had terminal cancer and I didn't want the hassle. They put a note on their system to not contact me for 6 months. He eventually died and the emails started again (they do call but I don't answer them). I admit my meters are old - over 30 years - but I'm in no hurry. I've had other things to deal with in the house, including a partial rewire, and can only deal with so much disruption at one time.

If your meters are over 30 years old, they're long overdue replacement. Your energy supplier is simply trying to fulfil its legal mandate to bill you via certified meters.
