feel like my washing never dries

I’m sick of squeezing past the clothes horse and washing on my banister.
I can’t tell if it’s just cold or still damp a week later.
I have a 7l dehumidifier, which pulls out a lot of the moisture, but it doesn’t seem to do enough Sad
It’s not quite sunny enough to put it out on the line yet and without the heating on anymore I don’t know what to do. Any advice please!!

If you’re in London you can totally dry it outside! I’m close and have been for a good couple of weeks now. Today was lovely and warm and sunny and looks like it will hit 26c this week .

The neighbour reports me then I start getting calls and letters threatening that I’m breaking my lease and can be kicked out of my (mortgaged) home

Who calls and threatens you? So is it no washing on the flat balcony or out the front?

That's disgusting from the neighbours still. I'm frustrated on your behalf!

Some of the lease seems to get ignored
it says I have to decorate every 7 years in approved colours, can’t bang a rug outside or do anything immoral as well as clean the windows inside once a month
think they dragged the lease out the 1800s

The management company
No washing on view at all - so not hung in windows/balcony/garden

I’m really curious what do you count as “washing line weather”?

If the patio stones are dry , the washing will dry

Justfreedom · 27/04/2025 21:47

Tumble dryer.

bigknitblanket · 27/04/2025 21:52

Not sunny enough? I’ve been hanging mine out for weeks when it’s dry, it doesn’t have to be sunny for your washing to dry. In fact a breeze is more effective.

I don’t think OP meant this ^ as by now there were days when patio stones were dry.

I've been drying my clothes outside for weeks. Even did it a few times in February and lots in March.
As long as it's over about 10 degrees and dry, I put it outside. It dries.

That’s crazy. Can they actually do anything? Like is it enforceable

Octavia64 · 27/04/2025 22:27

I’m east Anglia and I’ve been drying outside for weeks. It’s beautiful weather at the moment.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 27/04/2025 22:55

Sounds like your dehumidifier is malfunctioning to me
Double spin when washing finishes helps a lot
ceiling airer( Sheila maid)
Make sure you’re not overloading the airer.. You need space for air to circulate
Get a taller airer, or a heated airer
i dont have room for a tumble dryer now so I air dry with a dehumidifier overnight with a sheet/ duvet cover over the top
Makes a huge difference

uncomfortablydumb60 · 27/04/2025 22:56

As long as the ground is dry you can hang out
Any time, any season
