Any idea what these weird little mounds are? Woodworm? Ants?

We built a timber framed extension on to the back of our Victorian brick house about 15 years ago. For the last few years I’ve noticed these weird piles of grit, and also sawdust cobwebby piles too.

A Rentokil guy said it’s nothing, but I’m not convinced.
I’ve never seen any insects dead or alive near this area. We have previously had issues with ants, but that’s been clear for a while. Any ideas?

We had ants coming up through the floors, including concrete. Struggled with evicting them for years. Then the vet said that flea—ing just the cat was no good, we should do the house as well, and he recommended Indorex spray. Hey presto, no more fleas and no ants either. Cat has long gone, but we still occasionally get ants trying to join us indoors, usually Spring time and especially after heavy rain. I just spray along where the wall meets the floor where I think they’re coming in. And we are ant free until next year.

Thank you! There are holes all over the pointing outside, which I need to sort. I’ve used some ant killer and they seem to have disappeared, but will get indorex and treat annually. I dread to think what damage they’ve done already 😩
