is this crazy - meal planning and food shopping

I always spend about £110 a week on food which is within our budget but we have so much food in - usually freezer and cupboard -that some of it stays there for months. I have this idea to -

  1. List all the food and try and make meals from it.
  2. Run down totally the food stores and then start again by properly meal planning and getting some staples in for when I can't get to the shops, etc.

I have to cook twice a day and remembering to buy enough food for 5 is proving impossible to remember. Things like buying lamb - 1 pack is usually too much for just the kids but two packs is too much for us to have later (I am not making much sense am !?) Have been like this all day. Am very tired.

Seems a totally sensible idea to me I did this at the beginnign of the month as we are very broke this month and needed to economise. No point in havign loads of food that is going to go off in the cupboard is there?

Also re lamb/mince/stewing steak and things like I divide into family/kid size portions and freeze in lpastic bags so I only take out enough for a meal. HTH

Have a couple of freezer days!

the rule is that you are not allowed to buy anything in at all and just eat what is in the freezer! Can be fun as you end up with odds and sods of vegetables and some have fishfingers, some have nuggets, there are never enough chips for everyone!!

then eat all the leftover ice cream and start again!!

I do this from time to time (especially with stuff in the freezer)

My kids are quite used to strange combinations . Tonight they wanted boiled eggs and pasta so hubby made that with some cheese and sweetcorn. Not that they ate much of it. They have decided they don't like the coloured pasta now.
