April Flying with the Fledglings - We’re No Fools

Welcome to the April Flylady thread, we are starting the month with spring well and truly sprung, flowers out, longer days and hopefully warm, dry weather.

If you're looking for something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time, Flylady may be the answer for you! This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - unless you want to end up with a very cluttered inbox.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism! Her motto is “you are never behind”. We will be decluttering and cleaning in these zones with a daily mission posted, these are tasks that should take up to about 15 minutes.

Other daily themes: each day of the week has a different regular to-do:
Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh) - hoover, dust, change beds etc
Tuesday: plan & play
Wednesday: anti-procrastination
Thursday: errand day
Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
Saturday: family fun day
Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:
LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
LMS: lose/lost my shit
DNLMS: did not lose my shit
There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day.

Note: The Flylady website and app are not working reliably at the moment, both are stuck in Zone 5 and have been for several weeks. So the launchpad is not always up to date. However the Zone and Babystep pages are useful for reference. I will be posting the daily Flight Plan from the Flylady FB page instead for the time being.

Thanks ladies

Work are aware. I think because I tend to let stuff bounce off me and just crack on people just assume I'm fine, tbh I am. Just a crappy week.

Hopefully I hear about the house soon. Being successful with that will give me a huge boost.

THAT I have everything crossed for you! 🤞

Yesterday both DH & I were chaperone's for another band competition. This time they were doing the awards at a theme park, so we all got to go play! It's a bit of a drive and they had early performances, so it ended up being a very long day. It was a very good day. Band came in 3rd place. They were saying they made all kinds of mistakes, although I couldn't tell from listening to it!

Needless to say, no flying got done yesterday!
DS did the home bleugh on Friday though, so it's mostly laundry and grocery shopping that needs to happen today.
We still need to go pick up the dogs from my ILs. They were wanting to go out for a drive today, which we were going to join them, but I told DH last night that I don't really want to go. I would rather stay home!

BloomingHazel · 27/04/2025 16:08

Oh, and DS lost his glasses on a big ride 😢 so I'm going to need to call the theme park today to as if they can locate them, if not I'll need to call the eye doctor tomorrow. I'm pretty sure I paid for protection for them, but I don't know if it was only for a year (he got then 2 years ago), or if being lost even counts 🤷‍♀️

He does have a 2nd pair, but I'm not sure it's the right prescription.

Oh what a pain @BloomingHazel

Sorry, I completely forgot to post this morning, I had to go into work early to host an all-day meeting so I wasn’t really thinking about Flying. Hope you have all had a good Monday. Off to check the Flylady FB now.

Here is today’s Flight Plan, with a good explanation for the Monday habit of Home Blessing. Then the mission is to clean round the very edges of the floor, the bit that a quick whizz with the vacuum misses. I can’t really do this in our living room as it is small and has furniture / fireplace all the way round, but I get DH to do it every now and then as he is stronger for shifting the furniture.

I'm not sure what I'll get done today. Yesterday I started getting a sore throat that got worse as the day went on. The evening was terrible!

I still have the sore throat this morning, it hurts to swallow 😫 but I can't tell yet how my day is going to go. I'm supposed to be picking up some bell pepper plants and jalapeño plants, but not sure I want to leave the house. Although I do have to take DS over to replace his glasses 👓

I might be back later with some ta das. I do know that I need to do some laundry, but not a huge amount, and ideally clean both bathrooms. I'll have to see what kind of energy I'll have later.

Captainladder · 29/04/2025 17:32

Hi all. @THATbasicgirl you get good news re the house soon.

managed to clear the dressers and bedside tables over the weekend and dust the bedroom.
yeaterday and today have been a big manic with being kid taxi. Just having a tiny sit down in the garden 🎉 before I finish off making dinner (tofu taco bowls) I'm hoping that I can just throw all the ingredients in the oven and bake them and then plonk in a taco bowl. Feeling hot so can't be bothered standing by the stove.
will make a big bowl of salad with ranch style dressing to go with..... and hoping to eat in the garden..... it's soooo lovely today.

have been a bit behind on the laundry so one load on when i get up, and then my living room thing will be to fold up all the blankets that the children and dog like to throw on the floor!

EffortlesslyDecluttering · 30/04/2025 07:38

Morning all, hope you are feeling a bit better today @BloomingHazel

Yes, such gorgeous weather @Captainladder we have been eating outdoors for the last few weeks too (we have patio doors from the kitchen and the table is right outside so nice and easy).

I have been keeping to routines fairly well and incoporating a few 5 minute tidy-up every day which seems to be helping push back the clutter creep. I’m going out after work tonight so may not get much done.

The end of April has come round really quickly, would anyone like to volunteer to take over posting links for May? I’d kind of like a break now.

Wednesday.

Today is anti-procrastination day if there is something you have been putting off. Our mission is to remove anything that does not belong in the living room, whether it is junk to be got rid of or just stuff that lives elsewhere in the house. Have a good day everyone.

Good afternoon,
I'm still here, reading from the naughty corner. 🤣. Today is normally my day with ds (2 year old) but he is with the childminder so I can study and the childminder asked to switch days for an appointment so my 2 year old is with a relative tomorrow. I've sat down before collecting my DD from school. I'm not happy with how much study I've done today (probably just an hour), neither have I done much housework. I feel wiped out from anticipation of exams, my period and possibly post viral fatigue because I had a bad cold, possibly flu or COVID at the begging of April. Allthough I've been exhausted ever since having my second child if I'm honest! I've done one lol, hung it up in the sunshine.... Small supermarket shop That's it. I've just remembered the washing load was bedding so I need to make the beds at some point and upstairs is only going to get hotter. Had grand plans for a home blurg. I've Unleaded the dishwasher but plates are in the sink and the kitchen is a mess. I will collect DD from school now, then clean kitchen and make dinner. I will start from baby step one and have the sink shiny by bedtime.

BloomingHazel · 30/04/2025 18:35

I am feeling quite a bit better today actually, thank you ED I still felt rough this morning but the last hour or so I've really started to feel much better.
If no one else wants to, I can run the thread in May (I know I won't be able to in June). Unless the website is up and running though, I can't guarantee links every day as I hardly get on Facebook anymore! But as long as the app is updated, I'll be able to add the missions and baby steps each day.

Are you feeling better now 2in2022? That sounds like a lot on your plate!

YesTaDas:
🫖 LOLs x3
🤧 redid my nails (toes & fingers)
🍯 nap
🤒 picked DS up from school & took him to the opticians to order new glasses

That's it! Which means there's now no food in the house for meals the rest of the week! 🤦‍♀️

2in2022twoyearson · 30/04/2025 20:18

Yes it's a lot. It feels like this day has flown by unconstructively. DH has cleaned kitchen and made tomorrow's lunches which I fight the beds. 2/3 done. The finishing line is in site after my exams. I should plan something nice...I'm thinking I need to book a couple of random annual leave days for self care. I 'bought' an extra week annual leave this year, a new policy, basically unpaid leave but spread over the year so not noticeable.

BloomingHazel · 30/04/2025 21:01

2in2022 the self-care days sound like a great idea!
