Washing Machine dilemas

Hi can anyone please help!!! I’m exhausted looking for a washing machine with a reasonable cycle for a 60 c wash around an hr or less would be ideal, most are well over two hrs long. Most cycles are far to long I’m aware why but would prefer a washer with shorter cycles for 30/40 & 60 which is what I always wash on.

Have you checked the options to see if any of them have a 'speed wash' option on the programmes you want to use? Some of them shorten the cycle by quite a lot.

I have a Blomberg which came with the house we bought so no idea where it was bought from. It has a "Fast full load" option which then lets you set the temperature and spin speed.

A 40 degree wash takes about half an hour, a 60 degree load about 40 mins.

There are shorter options too but I haven't tried those.

I am definitely a "vile unhygienic slob" by MN standards as I don't wash everything every 5 minutes - or if someone has so much as looked at it - but everything comes out clean and smelling fresh.

OhYuck · 10/01/2025 16:10

Have a look at Bosch. At least some of their models have a quick wash for lightly soiled items at 30 degrees of 15 and 30 minutes. For higher temperature cotton washes at 60 or 40 degrees, you can use the SpeedPerfect button to reduce the wash time by up to 65%. It increases energy consumption but not wash thoroughness. Other manufacturers probably have similar features.

ThatBrightBlueDreamer · 11/01/2025 15:13

Yeh but most don’t state if and how long 60c degree wash will take on the speed/quick wash. So don’t want to buy a machine I’m not happy with because washes are far too long as most are these days thanks I will have another look.

I have an Aeg steam machine 5 kg wash 1.09 hrs can alter speed and time, series 7000, 57mm deep, paid £500 for it from AO.
Normal 8 kg capacity, can double time save if needed, lovely machine, 5 yr warranty

Most sites will link manufacturers sites with online booklet and can check stuff

If I use the "Rapid Option" button on the 60 degree white wash on my Hotpoint it reduces the temperature to 40 degrees. That might be something to be aware of when looking at new machines. It certainly surprised me.

Autumn1990 · 11/01/2025 16:01

Bosch is 33 minutes for 30 degrees and 39 minutes for 40 degrees. My mother and I both have Bosch but different models.
60 degrees takes over an hour

TheNuthatch · 11/01/2025 16:04

I have a Samsung ecobubble 12kg washer. A full load at 60 degrees takes 1.5 hours, slightly less for a 40 degree wash.

Ceejay9 · 11/01/2025 16:05

We have a logic machine.
60° wash takes 1 hour!

helibirdcomp · 11/01/2025 16:11

The longer times for 60 degree wash is probably because it takes much longer to heat the water.

DeffoNeedANameChange · 11/01/2025 16:16

I love my 10 year old LG which has a 30 min "quick wash" (perfect for school uniform with toothpaste down the front!) and a 60 minute "intensive wash" (seems fine for most things). It also has a pause button for when you realise you've dropped a sock halfway down the stairs.

I don't know if the latest model is quite the same, though, and I'm afraid I can't even see a model number on mine (it just says "inverter direct drive 9kg" on the front.....)

SleepingisanArt · 11/01/2025 16:50

Standard 60° wash on my Miele is 2hrs 29mins but there is a 'short wash' button which makes it around 1hr 30mins (depends on load weight can be quicker - it's clever!) The express programme is 20 minutes but doesn't include 60° because it couldn't heat up the water to 60 twice in the cycle time. (It's a cold water feed.)

Wonder if LG still do a similar machine what with the advance wash programs and excessively long wash programs, I will look at this one to thanks

I have a Hotpoint.

Ecowash is the longest so I use a standard 60 or 40 degrees was (1h55 / 1h45 time respectively)

But it also has a 60 minute fast wash at 60 degrees (but i can adjust the temperature to what I want - as much as 90 and low as 30, still 60 minutes)

And also has a 30 minute speed wash at 30 degrees (I've never tried to adjust the temperature so can't tell you if that is possible)

Btw this is one of the most mundane and uncontroversial posts I have ever made on MN GrinGrinGrin

@Autumn1990 I have been looking at Bosch, Aeg and Candy.
What model Bosch do you and your mum have?
it’s so difficult to choose as washers are advertised as having quick washes etc but then when you read the reviews people are saying washes are far long!!! Hence why I’d rather ask MN

OP posts:
fallingupwards · 12/01/2025 11:05

My Bosch has a 60° that's 65mins with the speed button. I think it's a series 8. You can google the instruction books and look at the timing grid to double check. I'll post the model when I'm in.

marthasmum · 12/01/2025 11:10

OP I researched this obsessively when I updated my washer a few years ago! You want to get it right thought don’t you as you’ll be using these programmes so much. I was surprised like you by how long the new machines take to wash, compared to my old model. I’m sure you’ll have gathered it’s to do with trying to make newer machines more energy efficient. Are you a member of Which? You can join for a month for a small amount and I’m pretty sure they included wash times as part of their info. Or as someone else said you can look at manuals. Quicker washes often only let you wash small loads though. I have a Bosch Series 6. Bosch and Beko seemed to be well reviewed by Which.

Soontobe60 · 12/01/2025 11:14

Out of interest, why do you want a quick wash? Also, how much do you wash at 60?
My machine has a quick 40 wash that takes an hour, a speedy 30 min 30 wash. The 60 wash takes over 2 hours. However, I only use this for towels and bedding.

rwalker · 12/01/2025 11:20

Not of fan of these quick washes the machine cycles are long for a reason they use less water and energy
also when you look at the instructions quick washes are normally 1/2 the capacity of the machine

quick is fine to freshen up stuff but anything like workwear ,sportswear and towels needs a proper wash

it just getting used to a different way of doing things we use delay start so can program it to finish when we get up

old machines were quicker because they used an enormous amount of water and smaller loads

Mymanyellow · 12/01/2025 11:24

I’ve got a Samsung eco bubble 60 takes hour and 16 minutes. 8 kg load.
