Fledglings Flying into November

ExquisiteIyDesigned · 31/10/2024 17:53

November is the month where we move from autumn into winter all are welcome as the Fledglings cosy up in their nests on this Flylady thread.

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day. Check in here instead or download the app, see below.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.
Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
Tuesday: plan & play
Wednesday: anti-procrastination
Thursday: errand day
Friday: clean car & purse out. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
Saturday: family fun day
Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:
LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
LMS: lose/lost my shit
DNLMS: did not lose my shit
BRC - box/basket of random clutter/crap

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications. You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

November’s monthly focus is menu planning.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

That's a lot accomplished ED!

Ta das:
🍬 LOLs x3 (including sheets since I'm working on Tuesday)
🍬 dark chocolate peppermint truffle centres made and in the freezer
🍬 peanut butter truffle centres made and in the freezer

That's it! We're on our way to the next town over so we can exchange some jeans for DH and have some dinner.
It's been a productive day, as well as relaxing. I was watching Christmas movies while making the truffle centres!

ExquisiteIyDesigned · 25/11/2024 07:31

Weirdly it felt as if I hadn’t got much done, it was only when I started writing it all down that I realised, yes, that was a productive day. I don’t often stay home all day (it felt like that even allowing for lifts for DD and shopping) and probably should do it more often, but I can never resist an outing.

Anyway, today we are moving into Zone 5, The Living Room

http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=0

Where our mission is to go sofa diving. We don’t often get a whole week in the living room because the end of the month often cuts the week in half, so it will be good do get stuck into that one. We have a recliner sofa, which is super comfy but it came in three sections, so anything that does get between the cushions ends up going right through into the workings or hopefully the floor, but it is hard to get at either. We have tried throws on it over the years but they always get ruffled and moved as the whole section shifts when you put the footrest up and down and they don’t tend to cover the gaps for long. WIll get the Christmas one out at the end of this week though for the start of Advent.

Good morning everyone,
Tada
🎉 my bed striped and in the wash
🎉 washed but not dressed yet
🎉 ironing (will I ever learn that it it better to get this done over the weekend or in the evening 🤦‍♀️😂)
🎉 lunches made by oh
🎉 oh also started prepping tea
🎉 bacon butties made for everyone
🎉 school & work bags packed

I've got lots on today but hoping to get a few moments to fly in between the madness !

Yesterday's tada
🎉 Christmas shopping trip to Meadowhall , haven't quite finished but the end is in sight ! I didn't do much after this - the 4am start to the day caught up with me eventually!

Searchingforbaileys · 25/11/2024 21:56

Busy day , the only flying was drying the bedding & remaking my bed 😂😂 oh and I brought some washing downstairs ready to put in the washer plus a quick tidy of the living room 🙈 tomorrow is a new day !

DillyDeclutter · 26/11/2024 06:25

My dc are very into taking the sofa cushions off to make "beds" on the floor so we are all over that one!

Our living room is also the playroom so always good to have a good run at it. I've managed a bit of decluttering and want a tip run before Advent Sunday- have some broken large plastic toys to go, sadly.

ExquisiteIyDesigned · 26/11/2024 08:10

Thank you, she got the all clear from the vet, wasn't very happy about going but at least they didn't stick a thermometer up her behind this time. She is indeed an Exquisite Cat, very beautiful and knows it

The Teens have been surprisingly co-operative with my attempts to declutter their playroom shelves. TG agreed that she would declutter her shelves in front of “Downton Abbey”. I walked back and forth with various tubs and boxes, and words of encouragement. At a rough guess, she reduced the clutter by about three-quarters, which was very impressive. I’m so proud of her.

I looked at her stacks of paper, sorted it into School, Scouts, Musical Theatre. Mostly she just hurls paperwork into a corner then expects me to be psychic about trips, performances, etc.

TeenBoy was great this morning. Not to be outdone by his sister, he agree to sorting one tub for every two episodes of Dragon cartoons. He managed to sort his jigsaws and some plastic tat before school, and is all ready to start again.

All that remains is for me sort the rubbish from the donate or sell items My biggest struggle.

Scourgify · 26/11/2024 15:06

DH did a great job yesterday. Brought back the serviced Dyson, then cut carpet tiles to fit under the bookshelves on the plywood flooring. It now smells better, and I reduced four storage boxes down to three.

BeetrootBootreet · 26/11/2024 19:27

Not much flying happening here - DW has taken a couple of days off work to support me while we wait for baby to arrive, so we've been doing mini day trips (there's a few National Trust places near us with lovely walking routes) and otherwise just bunking down staying cosy. But we did get the Yule decorations down from the attic so we might put up some of those over the next couple of days. Right now it's hot chocolate and bake off watching time!

@GreenWillowAndHolly sorry to hear about your child in hospital but so lovely you could be there to give support. Hope things are better now.

@ExquisiteIyDesigned glad to see the cat updates and fingers crossed they stay happy and healthy

@Scourgify the playroom progress sounds so positive! I love the "tidying while entertained" method. Sometimes I can only bring myself to tidy with disco tunes 😁

Searchingforbaileys · 26/11/2024 21:54

@BeetrootBootreet I have been thinking of you , hope you are doing ok ?

Tada
🎉 usual day to day things, pancakes for breakfast, work , school, tea, drop off at gymnastics
🎉 over an hour on planning, sending emails , permission slips , updating calendar with all the Christmas events etc
🎉 clothes ironed and ready for tomorrow

No flying in the living room today 🤦‍♀️

Watching I'm a celeb then I'm off to bed 😴

ExquisiteIyDesigned · 26/11/2024 23:14

No flying in the living room here either, don't think I've been in there for more than a minute today (took a Christmas card holder in).

Tada!
🐈 vet
✅ work
✅ straight out afterwards, home about 10
✅ fed 🐈🐈 (we have two)
✅ de-pooped litter trays
✅ made packed lunch
✅ washing out of dryer
✅ refillable Advent calendar and card holder out of loft and into position
✅ wrapped up a present for posting
✅ bit of FB selling admin
✅ shower
✅ put clothes out for the morning - that is so worth the effort on work days

I have given up on sleep again and I'm downstairs about to read my book so I don't disturb OH . I have to be up for work in 3 hours 😫, I just don't know why I am not sleeping . If anyone has been through this and has any advice , I would greatly appreciate it ! I always get some insomnia with pms symptoms , it lasts a couple of nights but I am not in that phase yet .

Happy to read that cat has had the all clear @ExquisiteIyDesigned ! You have reminded me about the refillable advent calendar ! Thank you , I will get that out over the next day or 2 .

Searchingforbaileys · 27/11/2024 01:44

Yay for teens decluttering @Scourgify ! Good luck with the sorting !

ExquisiteIyDesigned · 27/11/2024 11:29

Ooof, sorry, overslept, got out the door within 10 mins thanks to night before lunch and clothes prep and then had my journey to work take 70 mins instead of 17 due to flooding. Will check back in at lunchtime.

BeetrootBootreet · 27/11/2024 11:39

@Searchingforbaileys all good here, thank you! I obviously just grow babies for longer than usual but baby seems happy so the wait continues - midwives are supporting my plan to wait and see too. So much for those early labour scares though 🤣

ExquisiteIyDesigned · 27/11/2024 12:47

Checking in with the flight plan, our mission today is detailed dusting in the living room

Eek ED sorry about your nightmare morning!

I can't believe it's Wednesday already.

TaDas from Monday
❤️ All morning and half the afternoon on the phone, but I think we have found a properly qualified consultant for DC3 and have an appointment next week, as he had a cancellation! I was just being effusively thankful for an early January appt when she said "he has a space on the 4th" when she interjected with "no, in December, next week" and I nearly fell.off my chair!
🧡 Some Christmas presents ordered for all DC. Christmas may now occur.
💛 A bit of client work, found some people in the very northern Highlands of Scotland in the 1840s who had been hiding from me
💚 Christmas embroidery

YesTaDa
💚 Home bleugh
💙 More work
💜 Took parcel to be returned
❤️ Pilates class
💛 Booked train tickets to DC1's graduation, 200miles away, in less than a fortnight. Up and back in a day due to other commitments
🧡 Watched a film with DH & DC4, which is quite rare - it was fun and I got to embroider at the same time

TaDa
💛Telephone meeting, for which I was prepped and ready
💚 Took post down to DC2's office because he hadn't time to collect it
💙 Washed doormat due to sicky WillowHound 😢
💜 Gathered stuff and got out, I am now in Ikea looking at the Christmas tat while DH is in a meeting nearby. I will try to only by useful and necessary things 🤞🏼

ExquisiteIyDesigned · 28/11/2024 07:41

Morning all, stayed at home and relaxed last night, which was much needed, so no oversleeping this morning. Off to work shortly, another half day today. Might go to Costco after, we are running out of loo roll.

Flying wise it was a bit of a lazy one yesterday too, did a few jobs after work but really just regular daily things (clearing kitchen etc), I still haven’t tackled the living room in any meaningful way. Maybe later…..

So, here is today’s Flightplan
http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=0
The mission is more detailed dusting, door frames, tops of curtains etc.

Thursday is Errand Day - I have a parcel I need to post this morning, would normally stop on the way to work but I think there are roadworks blocking the only place you can park for free near the PO, and I resent having to pay for an hour to only be there for 5 mins so will have to think about that. Might walk in with it later after work.

A slow morning here as DW is back at work today and tomorrow morning (assuming baby doesn't arrive in the meantime) so I stayed in bed with my book today, chilling for as long as possible!

But I did just finish a sofa flip and plump of cushions and a deep vacuum of all its crevices, which was much needed, and the windows are wide open for a good luften. I used to feel guilty about cooling down rooms in winter having windows open for even 15 minutes, only to then have the heating on later, but apparently lowering the humidity makes the central heating more efficient (?) so it's a double win. And it seems we've only lost 2 degrees of heat so that feels worth it for me on balance with improved smell/staleness of the room!

Also we're having a slight return of the dreaded limescale in the ensuite so I've shoved a descaling block in there for the day and I'm hoping it just disappears. Elbow grease has done nothing to the stubborn bits.

For the rest of today, hoping to get the vacuum to the car mats later on, a day early for a car cleanse but the vacuum is out, so why not... but I'm already thrilled to have the lounge "back" to where I'm happy with it, so if that's all the cleaning I do today I can be at peace with that. Made bread yesterday, so planning to put on a slow cooker dinner for tonight and get some cake loaves in the oven too. Means minimal washing up which would be nice as we have had a bit of a build up lately - definitely haven't been doing the proper FlyLady daily sink shine and washing up!

HazelNuttyElf · 28/11/2024 15:16

ED sorry to hear about your cats surgery, but glad that she's recovering well.

Willow that is fantastic news about the appt next week 🤞you'll get some answers as to what is going on.

Beetroot still no sign of baby??!!

Searching I'm sorry to hear you're not sleeping. How old are you? I've heard ladies going through peri-menopause having trouble sleeping.

Scourgify well done on the decluttering! It sounds like you've all made lots of progress!

Those of you who have a refillable advent calendar: what do you put in yours? I've thought about buying some in the past, but I feel it would get really expensive filling them up!
This year I actually found Lindt advent calendars in the store (we don't get the Cadbury ones here, or any choices for that matter), the ones I've bought in the past had disgusting chocolate in it. If any of you haven't tried American "chocolate" before, you're really not missing out! (My opinion of course)

I have been so tired this month! Last night I was in bed and ASLEEP by 9:30pm! That's unheard of for me unless I'm sick.
This morning I feel refreshed, although have a headache because my neck hurts 😞

Today is Thanksgiving here. I worked on Tuesday so didn't get my cleaning done that I would normally do. However, DH and DS got the house cleaned yesterday so I don't need to worry about that today, just baking and cooking!
