How much is your water bill ...

SnoopySnoopDoggIsTheBest · 15/08/2024 09:21

Just that really ... we are 3 in a 3 bed flat ... we are having a 'discussion' about our Water Bill as it seems to be getting more and more every month!

It has been on average £75 per month for the last year but this month our bill is approx £90.00!

Is this normal or do we have a leak?

All 3 working from home too ...

I guess someone has to pay for all the bonuses all the Water bosses seem to be giving themselves!

@Tulipvase,

Yes it does ... and yes I am aware that 30' showers are too long but there is no compromise on this at all ... I am a 15' shower person myself ...

Cheers,

If the person who has 30 minute showers has a health condition, you might qualify for a reduction on your water bill due to this.

Even 15 minutes is much longer than it needs to be for someone to get clean. 5-10 minutes is plenty even with hair washing, shaving etc.

But if the 30 minutes is a 'want' not a 'need' do they not care about how wasteful they're being? What if there was a drought order and everyone was advised to limit their showers to 5 mins max?

Well I guess that’s where a lot of the usage comes from.

But if it’s non negotiable then it can’t be helped.

CocoDolphin · 16/08/2024 15:21

30 minute showers are insane!

we pay £80 pcm - 4 of us in a 5 bed. Washing machine and dishwasher are used on average once a day each.

timetodecide2345 · 16/08/2024 15:26

£55 a moth. Two adults and an 18 year old.

BeaRF75 · 16/08/2024 15:29

I have no idea, because it has always been paid by direct debit, twice a year. I could look it up, I suppose, but water has generally never been a particularly high amount, I think. No water meter.

Oldraver · 16/08/2024 15:29

£52 a month, three sometimes four people

We water the garden when the water butt empties

HarryBlackberry1 · 16/08/2024 15:32

£56 a month. 2 adults in a three bedroom house. Apparently this is classed as high, as I recently queried it and had someone out to check if we had a leak.

DoublePeonies · 16/08/2024 15:38

4 of us (in a house, not sure this affects anything).
£37 a month. But about 40 mins less a day shower time, and at least one washing machine load less a day (probably average 5 or 6 loads a week).

I'd fix the leaking loo, and try and knock 5-10 mi s off everyone's shower.

UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE

Just to let you know that the Landlord finally took the Landlord Insurance, yes, why this is not compulsory in the UK is beyond me!

The plumber has been, they sent a 'specialist' team and they confirmed that yes it is the tank and has been leaking for months!

Result!

Now to get the refund from Thames Water!

Wish me luck!

Thanks MN you solved it once again!

We're on a meter. 2 adults, 2 teens. Teens could be cleaner. £43/month. Yorkshire Water.

ASongOfRiceAndPeas · 18/10/2024 18:08

It’s Thames Water. They’re in big trouble. Mine has gone up to £65 from £35 this summer, 1 adult 1 child in a 2 bed flat.

* UPDATE * * UPDATE * * UPDATE * * UPDATE * * UPDATE *

Ok, so we finally received a credit note today from Thames Water and they have backdated for the max of TWO years too!

Actually was not expecting that but very happy to have a refund ... just wish it was real cash instead of credit but no worries ...

I have spent so much time dealing with this by phone, email and live chat ... not sure my flatmates realise how long it has taken to sort this out but TOTALLY, TOTALLY worth it!

So ... it is definitely worth chasing these (extremely annoying) things MNs even if it drives you mad!

BUT I still think our Water Bill is way too high for 3 adults in a small 3 bed flat!

Hi I have just managed to get 1000 off my bill 😃 because I don't have a water meter I've been charged way to much over the years, they transferred me over to assured tariff for people who can't have water meter applied 400 credit for debt and I have been accepted for 50% discount bcus I am in receiving housing benefit as I am single mother last time I applied wasn't accepted but was this time! Can't believe if you don't ask you don't get.
