How to get rid of musty smell on clothes ?

Bought a couple of gorgeous skirts on Vinted but they smell musty / mothball-y.

I've washed them on 40 with bio wash powder and fabric softener, hung on line to dry all day ... and they still smell Shock

Any ideas please? They're really nice skirts but I can't wear them until the pong is gone!

I don't know if it would work for musty smells but vinegar gets lingering bo out!

Sorry realised you might need more detail. Soak clothes in white vinegar for a a while until saturated. Then chuck in washing machine. Some people even use vinegar in place of softener. The vinegar smell will evaporate and hopefully leave clothes smelling nice!

Thanks! A few questions please:

Do the clothes then smell of vinegar?

Where do I put the vinegar - in the washing machine drawer??

What kind?! I have white wine, malt, red wine, cider, balsamic (never realised I was inadvertently collecting vinegars 🤣)

Put a couple of big bath bombs into a bath and fill with water and leave the skirts to soak for afew hours, swish around hourly

Wash with biological washing powder and a Laundry sanitiser (I think its dettol)

@NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy I found this post searching for answers to the same problem-a musty jumper bought on Vinted!

I’ve already washed it with normal bio washing powder and Dettol laundry sanitiser but aI can still smell it! I just wondered if the vinegar tip worked?!
