These pop up from time to time...but not for a while.

I don't go to Lidl, but from Aldi, we buy:

  • milk
  • bread (normal loaf)
  • flat stotties - probably 'barm cakes' to you
  • broiche - chocolate and vanilla both yummy
  • sweet waffles
  • tinned tomatoes
  • bags of pasta/rice
  • coleslaw
  • bagged salad
  • cucumber
  • baby plum tomatoes
  • bananas
  • dish washer tablets
  • washing tablets
  • most household cleaning products
  • nappies and wipes
  • juice cartons for lunch boxes
  • cereal - especially bran flakes
  • not from concentrate orange juice
  • little beers
  • pretend Pimms and Baileys

Will keep thinking

Yes they all have co enzyme Q10 in and are really cheap.

Other leading brands have same ingredients and cost ££££££££.

longton · 14/04/2008 18:23

lidl.
we buy everything bar fresh meat (chicken, joints etc..farm shop for those)
particulalry yummy are parmesan, chunky oven chips, yoghurts, salmon, cooked meats salami, ham cheese coleslaw is to die for.
the wines are great too..

ButterflyBessie · 14/04/2008 18:30

What about their specials they have every week?

You can get some amazing bargains, I often stock up for little stocking fillers, also Lidl had a cycling event recently and I bought loads of stuff for the bike

Mum2G · 27/04/2008 20:10

those frozen lamb in sauce joints are nice from aldi, either morrocan or rosemary sauce, just bung in oven for an hour and half

AHLH · 09/05/2008 09:20

Aldi rocks! There's a Lidl being built on my route to work, so I shall be able to check it out soon.

I try to alternate shopping trips between Aldi (Cheap, and DH loves their Maple Pecan crunchy cereal)and Asda for the things Aldi doesn't stock (vege sausages).

OrmIrian · 09/05/2008 09:23

Pain au chocolat, dishwasher tablets (much better than leading brands and all the glasses come out looking like glass instead of pebbledash), feta in olive oil and herbs, apples, olive oil. Loads of stuff. Aldi that is. Lidl is a bit further off.

fembear · 09/05/2008 09:37

Aldi do a gorgeous fromage frais with a fruit bottom. It used to be 19p. I went in yesterday and it was 27p.

I don't live near to an Aldi so I tend to use it occasionally (if passing by) for non-perishables but a friend says their fruit and veg has great shelf-life.

maggies3 · 14/05/2008 21:57

meatballs (mini frikkedellens, i think!)
frozen duck and pancakes
all the fruit, veg and salad
frozen chocolate cheesecake
treacle tart
jams and peanut butter

Botbot · 14/05/2008 22:05

bottles of sherry.

olsmum · 14/05/2008 22:10

they have a yummy brioche (spelling???) thing thats in a round foil tin.
raspberry jam.
caramel shortbread.
i also quite like the packets of dried pasta in sauce, especially the mushroom one.

Rosbo · 14/05/2008 22:24

Lidl - chocolate! I find their chocolate is much better quality than even Waitrose which is where we tend to shop for food. Also their frankfurter sausages, dried pasta, rice, noodles, pizzas, cheese and fruit. Dishwasher tablets. Stocking fillers and any treats or sweeties for kiddies!

Rachmumoftwo · 14/05/2008 23:01

I love 'Austins', the cheap version of Pimms. You really cannot tell! Aldi do lots of fab stuff, I prefer it to Lidl, tbh.

WillyWonka · 14/05/2008 23:05

Aldi's cheese straws beat all others hands down. Also love their double chocolate cookies

MsPontipine · 15/05/2008 21:14

Secateurs for 99p!

Sidge · 15/05/2008 21:19

Lidl do the best jaffa cakes - they call them Orange Cakes. They are goorrggeeeouusss.

They also do jars of Rohtkohl (pickled red cabbage), spicy German sausages, paprika crisps and their dishwasher tablets are ace.

Botbot · 15/05/2008 21:43

oooh, oooh.

Soft amaretti biscuits from Lidl.

Every spring my mum sends me a text saying 'they've got garden parasols in Lidl again - get in there!'

And I do, and they haven't.

Friendlypizzaeater · 15/05/2008 21:48

Agree on the Pimms - fab !

Love the chirotzo (sp) sausage - so cheap compared to anywhere else ! Fruit & veg is normally really good quality. Hubby like the tins of chilli (I'd rather eat snot - but well )

I get the weekly newsletter via email so I can the weekly specials - you just sign up on the Aldi web page

stripeybumpsmum · 15/05/2008 21:50

check out the comparisons on www.supermarketownbrandguide.co.uk/index.htm

I have just found this site this evening and it is really quite tragic how much I like it

KatieScarlett2833 · 15/05/2008 21:54

You can register online at Aldi and they e-mail you in advance to let you know what their bi-weekly specials are. Yes, I know I'm a saddo.

The moisturisers are ace, the day one is less than £2.
Dishwasher tablets are cheap but great
Deli stuff great, especially the stuffed feta olives and the extremely cheap Brie.
Even the baked beans are delicious.

I heart Aldi. They even pay their staff way over the standard hourly rate which I thorougly approve of.

padboz · 15/05/2008 22:03

I haven't read this thread - I will in a minute - but I just have to barge in and say how much I bloody love Aldi. I'm a fully paid up food ponce - I shop in two shops - Aldi and Waitrose and I shop in Aldi for quality more than price. you have to pick your products but some things I wouldn't buy anywhere else. Their rocket tastes like the rocket you grow in your garden, not soap. I bought a pack of about 40 frozen langoustines - scottish sensibly sourced ones - for 8 quid in there the other day - God only knows what that would have cost elsewhere.

If you dont read anything else I've written buy their mozzerlla - it beats everthing but artisan buffalo stuff (including cheap buffalo stuff) hands down.

hairtwiddler · 15/05/2008 22:08

We do a regular Lidl shop and buy:

100% apple juice, pear juice and grape juice
tins tuna
basic bread (to keep in freezer for when we run out)
fruit loaf
tinned tomatoes
cartons passata
pasta
rice
couscous
organic bananas
tomatoes
organic mushrooms
butternut squash
various other fruit and veg
milk
sultanas
frozen prawns
bags frozen fish to make fish pie
nappies
wipes
wine
free range eggs
smoked salmon
yoghurts
cheese
chocolate

That's quite a lot when I write it all down!

padboz · 15/05/2008 22:17

oh yes - their frozen prawns are much better than anywhere else I can think of

ladymariner · 15/05/2008 22:32

Got ds a digital camera from Aldi, £39.99 and it's brilliant, has a better memory on it than ours which cost £150 and is tough therefore ideal for ds!
They do a version of cheerios which ds says taste the same but cost £1.19!!

Mex7107 · 06/06/2008 10:35

Jive are definitely Twix we can't tell the difference

Tissues - cube boxes are so cheap
pizza - especially pepperoni
