Would prefer an upright...but not sure that will be possible.

But with 4 females (who have or are likely to have long hair) in the house it needs to be clog free...

Hello!

We've noticed this thread is quite old and some of the product recommendations are a little out of date. After weeks of trawling the Talk boards, talking to parents and researching bestsellers, here are our trusted reviews to help you find the best vacuum cleaner on the market.

Hope this helps! Flowers

We have long hair and two cats at my house, and the Dyson Animal works well. The brush does need to be cleaned once in a while because of the human hair. I think some sort of pre-cleaning (rug rake, partial vacuuming with just a hose, or something else) might help the problem.

I've a Miele cylinder, it's brilliant. The best vacuum ever and I've had a fair few makes and models. Get the best one you can afford op.

Not answering your question but I run a rubber broom or rubber brush over things before vacuuming.
Long hair and cat hair otherwise quickly fill up the vacuum cleaner.

OP what sort of vacuum do you currently have and what part is getting clogged?

If the vacuum has a roller brush it will pick up hair better but you have to periodically clean hair off the roller. If it just sucks up (like a hard floor tool) then it won't pick up hair as well but no roller to clean either.

We have a Miele cat & dog cylinder after moving into a house with a grippy sort of carpet that defeated the old Dyson when it came to dog hair. It's brilliant but you have to clean it just like you change the bags. It's easy to do.
