Easy way to mark the DDs' socks and other clothes so I can tell them apart?

The DDs are close in age so their clothes look very similar. I've decided to mark the labels in DD2's clothes with a laundry marker (not DD1's, as they quickly become DD2's ...), so that when I'm not around whoever is sorting the laundry will have an easier job.

What shall I do with socks etc that don't have a label to write on?

I assume a laundry marker will work ok on those shiny labels won't it?

Ah. I see my highly original idea has already been posted. ho hum.

I'm pretty good at being organised if it saves on marking/sewing/housework.

I do madly advocate the Get Them To Sort It Themselves approach. One is smugly teaching them Life Skills, while avoiding them oneself.

(Fennel, DD1 mistressminded some very organised packing last night. DD2 majored on bears.)

Dot method. Use a sharpie or perminant marker.
Child 1 ( oldest) gets 1 dot on label. Child 2 gets 2 dots. Child 3 gets 3 dots etc.

When a garment is too small for a child simply add a dot so it will fit next child. Not too time consuming, no ironing or sewing.

I think after 9 years op might have solved her labelling problem

For DD2 just cut the washing instructor label off. Child 1 has labels, child 2 not.

Just don't do it the other way round!

Works for my daughters who wear the same size bra, it's now easy to sort.
