Is it me? or my family? hoovering question!

[lighthearted, honest]

A colleague was saying how when they had a dog they had to hoover [shocked voice] twice a week. Now this colleague, while they have no DC and just live with their partner, is a very clean and tidy person (I have seen their desk and pix of their home).

So why (oh why?) am I having to hoover daily and more? Am I obsessed? Is everyone else a slattern? (but i know my colleague is not) or are my family just very messy?

As an example I hoovered late last night (DD had friends round till late) and then today, about 11am, the kitchen floor was covered in tut - I swept up quite the pile of crumbs and fluff and more. Only four ppl here - DH had got up, washed up and gone for a walk; I had done some admin and gone for a swim; DD had got up and gone out; DS1 was still in bed.

Where is the mess coming from? I suspect DH is secretly roaming the kitchen at 2am crumbling Weetabix. Does anyone else have this issue?

Haha I sometimes wonder this.
I am a clean person but I slack on hoovering. Once /twice a week then more if a mess is made!

Maybe she sweeps up kitchen crud daily but vacuums the whole house twice a week?

Before my robot vacuum this would have been what I did. Upstairs was once a week as we don't wear shoes there. Not robot vacuum tootles about kitchen after kids have gone to school and again after supper.

No, colleague said they don't sweep kitchen floor either. Maybe they are very non-messy.

Tbf another colleague piped up with "twice a week! We hoover daily!" They have two small dc tho.

How old are the kids? I have a 6yo and a 10mo old and realistically need to vacuum every day downstairs (although I often push it to every other day) because the crumbs are insane

Part of it I think is a strictness thing- my mum never let us eat anywhere other than the table and I’m quite lax about letting DD eat her toast on the sofa etc. Sort of pick your poison there- I’m happy to nag less and vacuum a bit more, others probably aren’t!

I hoover downstairs every day because we have a dog (she doesn't go upstairs) seems normal to me

clary · 23/06/2024 13:54

Oh my dc are adults haha. Still messy tho

I hoover down stairs which is kitchen and halls and bathroom and front room.
At least twice a day at the very least.

Bedrooms three or four times per week
