How did the cleaner clear the cigarette smell so well?

My neighbour has been smoking indoors and the smell leaks to the hallway. I've been chasing the management company for a solution, but it's another story. However I notice that every time the building's cleaner comes, they hoover the thing somehow and the smell is cleared completely - it's amazing! I do hoover the floor regularly and put out an air purifier with a charcoal filter, but can't get the same effeciency. Cleaner definitely doesn't open the building door for ventilation because it self-closes. Can anyone guess their technique to make the hallway so clean?

They either mask it with a fragrance or perhaps vax the floor?

They use Shake n Vac to put the freshness back?

Okigen · 15/05/2024 23:42

@MoonKiss @NosyJosie Nope no fragrance, it just doesn't smell at all. I have just googled for Shake n Vax, never heard of it before but it sounds like what I need! Many thanks I'll try it.

Cleaner might prop the self closing door open?

There’s a foam called carpet fresh or similar which is the absolute nuts and you can spray that between cleans.

Wish I knew as we have downstairs new neighbours who smoke and it permeates into the communal hallways. Horrible.

Leave a note out for them

Say you appreciate their level of cleaning and how nice it smells after they leave and could they tell you what they do /use

If you don't want fragrace, DON'T get Shake n Vac. It leaves the most revolting artificial fragrance, that will then be stuck in your vacuum cleaner and carpets for ever more.

There are chemicals available that actually neutralise odours rather than just mask them

No, I think you'd hear them singing if they were doing using that.
