And do you have a large capacity washing machine?

Thanks

Twice a year and I take them to the launderette and sit there for a couple of hours reading a book. It's like a little spa break for me! 🤣

I have never washed our goose feather & down duvet. We've had it for 15 years.

The kids duvets (synthetic) used to get washed when they vomited or weed on them.

Duvet covers get washed once a fortnight. Flipped after a week.

Same here. Although I did have to get it dry cleaned 16 years ago when DD1 was sick in our bed.

Mum2jenny · 13/04/2024 20:45

I have a 10.5 tog king size that won’t fit in my washing machine and the local launderette wanted more than £30 to wash and dry it. It’ll be going in the bin and I’ll buy a new one for a similar price. So much for environmental friendliness. I can’t afford it!

fishfingersandtoes · 13/04/2024 20:46

Never.
Except for dds when she was little and wet the bed. Then about 5x a week.

greektreacle · 13/04/2024 20:48

At the end of winter. I wash the single ones in our machine and hang out to dry. The super king goes to the laundrette and I take my book. Very peaceful and nobody asks me to find anything / do anything for the hour it takes to wash and dry it. Plus it smells nice in there. Best €15 of the year. 10/10 Would recommend.

staringatthedoor · 13/04/2024 20:49

Big ones when switched from winter to summer but kids every few months because kids are gross. Even my lovely ones.
Like the idea of just washing it in the bath for a nice long soak & then put on a hot day, rather than lugging it off to the laundrette though.

Kids summer ones & my 4.5 king size fit in the machine. Think it's only a 8k.

bakewellbride · 13/04/2024 20:51

We have 2 (summer and winter) and each get washed and dried once a year at the laundrette. I pay the laundrette £12 and it includes delivery and pick up.

staringatthedoor · 13/04/2024 20:52

Also vacuum pack when not in use. Do the same with winter coats. If they go in clean & fresh they come out exactly as they go in. Do this with spare bedding that doesn't get used often too so always something clean & fresh available & saves loads of room.

Librarybooker · 13/04/2024 20:53

I take them to the cleaners/laundry diff ones for each season

MerelyPlaying · 13/04/2024 20:54

Never. Had to get it dry cleaned when the cat weed on it but otherwise …. I change the cover every week.

MultiplaLight · 13/04/2024 20:59

Never, apart from when the kids are sick on synthetic singles.

Feather doubles get aired in the summer.

Whoever washes bed sheets twice a week has too much time, money or issues.

SpringOfContentment · 13/04/2024 21:09

Never?
I mean, they get a 6 month break when we switch season. But I don't think I've ever put them through a machine cycle.
Covers get washed weekly (ish)

Just to say, you shouldn't have to sit in a launderette to get an hours peace

@Op

Never washed a duvet, it doesn't get dirty, so why would I,

unsync · 13/04/2024 21:20

When I swap from high tog to low tog (and vice versa), the duvets get collected by a local laundry service for washing and drying, and then they get dropped back. I do the pillows myself quarterly.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 13/04/2024 21:21

Each of my 2 duvets is washed once a year, when I swap from winter to summer duvet and vice versa. I take them to the launderette and they wash and dry them. It costs something like £20 or £25 which I know might buy me a new duvet, but I have no wish to send a perfectly good duvet to landfill so am happy to pay that.

Allshallbewell2021 · 13/04/2024 21:31

Unsync

I tried to do my pillows using advice here about balance and it didn't work at all in my very ordinary machine so
I went to the launderette and did them myself. 🎻 🎶

I change the bedding twice a week and wash the duvets every two weeks. Towels are daily and curtains every three months.

Curtains every 3 months?? They must be minging. Some people are just so fucking lazy.

Circlingthesun · 13/04/2024 22:02

Double duvet in my 9kg washer when someone's sick on it, otherwise never. It's in a cover so don't see the point. It does get aired on the bannister when I change the duvet covers for a few hours.

MamaAndTheSofa · 13/04/2024 22:08

I wait for a really sunny spell and then do as many as I can, so they basically get done about once per year each.

I wash them in the bath, and hang them outside over some stepladders (too heavy for the clothes horse; learnt that the hard way).

persisted · 13/04/2024 22:16

Never.

fashionqueen1183 · 13/04/2024 22:27

Never. I didn’t even know people did this until my new washing machine had a label on it about duvets fitting in.

Pigeonqueen · 13/04/2024 22:43

Never. I tend to buy a new one every year or so though. I just like the feel of a new one. I donate the old ones to an animal rescue.

GingerIsBest · 13/04/2024 22:49

Ours are king size so they go to the dry cleaner - at season change. I do have kingsize down duvets as well although we don't use them anymore and those I used to take to the laundromat and wash and tumble dry myself.

The kids feather duvets I wash and tumble dry at home (9kg machine) once or twice a year.

I'm actually about to work my way through all our feather pillows - I feel like peri menopause and teh sweating means they really need a good wash. I can do one at a time in the washing machine.

mitogoshi · 13/04/2024 22:57

The kingsize one doesn't fit (10.5 tog) and no laundrette in town. Just bought a 4.5 as fed up with roasting all summer so might locate a laundrette in a neighbouring town to wash it over the summer, definitely not done in 5 years Blush

mitogoshi · 13/04/2024 22:59

My washer is 9kg
