How often do you wash your family duvets?

And do you have a large capacity washing machine?

Thanks

One school holiday when she was 5 or 6 I washed DDs duvet almost daily as she didn't want to wear trainer pants any more, but was not yet dry at night. It was a cheapy argos duvet and has withstood many a wash.
I'm not sure that the double duvets fit in the wash, I think I've had them dry cleaned once or twice but not regularly.

2 double beds and a cot. Bedding changed every 2 weeks. 2 sets per bed so the one taken off goes in the wash then folded in the airing cupboard.

nonmerci99 · 13/04/2024 18:19

Never.

The variety of approach here is frankly fascinating

😄

Mine are tumble dryable too, so nine of this dripping around the place.

I think this was the duvet itself, not the covers.

When we change from winter to summer weights and vice versa. Summer weight one goes in the washing machine and take winter one to the launderette for washing and some drying. Finish outside on a sunny day.
All of the single ones go in the washing machine.

Cookerhood · 13/04/2024 18:30

When I said it goes to the dry cleaners, I mean they wash & dry it. I don't think you can dry clean feathers anyway.

Tereseta · 13/04/2024 18:31

Never, we have wool duvets and they get aired on the washing line once or twice a year in the sun.

Sunnnybunny72 · 13/04/2024 18:31

Never been washed. Never been aired on the line.

Wolfpa · 13/04/2024 18:32

Never I have a duvet protector and duvet covers.

the protector gets washed when I turn the mattress.

Allshallbewell2021 · 13/04/2024 18:32

Would you put a double 4.5 tog duvet in a standard washing machine?

Never

Allshallbewell2021 · 13/04/2024 18:33

My king 4 tog gets washed. I don't spin it much though and only wash it when it's sunny enough to dry on the line.

I asked how much it was to do at local dry cleaners which was £25 or so. I could get a new one for less than that.

So never is the answer. I am in a flat so no where to dry for several days.

It's difficult when a double duvet costs about £15! I just dont wash mine but there must be a lot of winter duvets in landfill if someone is sick on one or similar.

caringcarer · 13/04/2024 18:37

I take mine to a launderette once a year. They have huge machines and easily take a king sized duvet.

merrymelodies · 13/04/2024 18:37

I wash and tumble dry the summer ones and send the winter duvets to be cleaned when I switch over.

caringcarer · 13/04/2024 18:38

Hedgerow2 · 13/04/2024 18:09

Are you serious?!!'

You have a lot of time on your hands.

balzamico · 13/04/2024 15:41

DH and I have summer and winter duvets so I take them to the dry cleaners when I change them with the seasons.
However, I have only now realised that I have never washed DC's duvets (though the covers are changed regularly) Blush

This. 2 duvets... seasonal. I have both dry cleaned once a year..so in essence once every 6 month

My 10.5 double duvet fits in my washing machine, I use it in the winter and wash it before storing it once the weather is warm enough. I think my machine is 8 kg but I’d need to check.

@caringcarer - what do you mean I have a lot of time on my hands?

NetZeroZealot · 13/04/2024 19:28

I have never washed our goose feather & down duvet. We've had it for 15 years.

The kids duvets (synthetic) used to get washed when they vomited or weed on them.

Duvet covers get washed once a fortnight. Flipped after a week.
