Red wine stain on cream rug - how to get out?!!

I spilt half a glass of red wine on the rug the other night. Have tried 1001 and vanish and have now been left with a blackish mark on the rug - looks as if it is still wet but isn't. Any suggestions please?

I have heard that throwing white wine on it, or putting salt on it would have been good, but only as soon as the spill has occured. I suppose you could wet the stain and then pour the salt on - the salt draws up the red wine.

Try the white wine, it might still work. Pour it on, leave for 10 mins and then soak it up. Repeat if necessary.

And the next option would be to put soda water in a spray bottle - it will fizz up a little, and then put a towel straight on it and stamp on it to soak it up.

Next option is to make a paste of bicarb and water(not baking soda, which is floury) and rub it in, then scrubb it off with a scrubby brush - lots of rinsing again soda water, and soaking up with towel.

Vanish stain remover?

Final option - get a rug to cover it! Good luck, let us know how it goes
