Hi. I really need to get myself into a good routine with shopping. At the moment I go about once a week and spend about £70- £80 and alot of the time I buy things I don't need. I did try and do one online shop once a month and then go out for milk, fruit, veg and meat but that wasn't working as DD goes to school outside the village so drive everywhere and always killing time in Tesco!

How can I get my shopping bill down? Can people give me a rough idea of what you buy from the shops each weeks please? Thanks!

i suggest refraining from killing time in tesco may help!

Meal plan
Make a list
and stick to it (only buying ingrediants you need) should help

Good idea, nannyL.

Every week, make a list of the meals you or partner are going to cook, then buy the ingredients accordingly.

It focuses the mind like nothing else can!

How many of you are there?

I've just been sorting out my shopping budget tonight and I've whittled it down to (monthly budget)

£40-50 veg box (£10 a week)
£50 meat (farm shop)
£150 supermarket basics
£50 extras - toiletries / alcohol / treats

That's £70 a week. I would struggle to get below £60 a week, there are three of us, if I needed to I would cut down on the meat.

Meal planning does help. Are you using up the things you don;t need?!

Don;t kill time in Tesco...please

The thing with that though is no one ever starts with an empty fridge, freezer and cupboard so you always have things that are left over and aren't fitted in to a meal or else you try and make a meal around them and then end up buying all sorts of things that are used once.

I am food shopping tmw.......

Periodically sort your cupboards and incorporate near use by date tins and packets into your meal plan.

I suppose you can try online shopping or make a very comprehensive list and stick to it....

A snack before you go shopping to avoid the munchie buys ....

Can you not find another way to kill the time - reading (not the DM ??
