How much clean do you do a day?

QueeenBee · 20/01/2024 21:56

I feel like I just clean and tidy all day but my house is never as clean as I would like!

Most days

Wash dishes 4/5 times a day (waiting on new dishwasher arriving next week)

Hoover living room, hallway and kitchen

Clean downstairs bathroom

Spot clean sofas as needed

General wipe around with zoflora

Wipe toddlers fingerprints off furnitur

Mop kitchen floor

clean the kitchen sides as needed

One load of laundry a day

My weekly jobs are

Change everyone's bedding

Wash all windows in house

Hoover bedrooms and wipe down with zoflora

Clean the bathrooms

Deep clean recycling bins

Do all the ironing

Clean the car.

I also try to organise and declutter every week if I have the energy and time.

I always feel like everything is all piling up and I never have the beautiful clean home like all those women on instagram. Is it just me or is everyone like this? Forgot to mention I have a 22 month old ds who doesn't go to nursery and a newborn.

The instagramners don't have a beautiful perfect clean home all the time just for the photos

GrazingSheep · 21/01/2024 10:13

It sounds exhausting for you.
Would you consider going for counselling to see if you can get to the root of why this is happening?

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 21/01/2024 10:15

These threads always make me feel bad about my housekeeping! Many peoples daily or weekly jobs are my monthly. I console myself by saying at least I cook from scratch more than most...

BarrelOfOtters · 21/01/2024 10:19

We have a cleaner once a week.

dh hoovers once a week.

windows…once or twice a year inside and outside fortnightly window cleaner.

wipe down and clean kitchen surfaces every night.

BarrelOfOtters · 21/01/2024 10:20

Car two or three times a year…

You clean the downstairs bathroom every day?? How dirty is it getting in one day?

Ignore Instagram, they're literally paid to keep their house clean, as in, it's their job to do it.

QueeenBee · 21/01/2024 08:05

I have a toddler who snacks in the car every day in life, you can imagine the how that would build up, as for the windows we live with fields all around and for some reason the windows are always dusty.

Just give them non-messy snacks. Like... Cheese strings or a yogurt pouch or something.

Or preferably don't have them eating in the car.

Ladyj84 · 21/01/2024 10:27

Got 3 under 3 and my list is pretty much the same tbh. The car ends up a tip after a couple of days, greasy little fingers do the windows. The only thing I don't do is ironing thanks to a dryer and even tho we use the dishwasher twice a day still wash up several times aswell lol. But we have got it down to when they all go bed at 6:30 a quick zip around and by 7-7:15 that's if for the night and we eat and chill

Daily - clean down the sink & worktops. Load the dishwasher. I also cook from scratch, do school runs & work full time

Weekly - Clean bathrooms, hoover all rooms, four loads of laundry. Iron shirts, Change beds. Mop kitchen floor.

The weekly stuff takes me three hours early on Sunday morning, then I'm free for the day. I don't have a toddler though.

Stop looking at Instagram. It's not real. You're wasting your life chasing an illusion.

This^ You do know they get their houses “Instagram ready” don’t you? They don’t really have no mess at all times. You’re doing far too much. Enjoy your little ones x

RolyPolyFishHead · 21/01/2024 10:33

I’m at a different stage of life and did have a cleaner when children were small and beyond. I even kept her on when I first retired but then she gave up cleaning and I haven’t replaced her. That’s an indication of how much I hate it.

There is however no washing up piling up ever. I have a robot vacuum that gets sets off most days. Stuff like recycling bins and windows getting washed I could not tell you the last time they were done.

I iron very infrequently and change bedding every 2 weeks. I keep a set of scruffs for gardening and hiking so get multiple uses out of them, kept on a chair in the conservatory. If I’m getting a bit of mud on my trousers hiking then I will the next time as well so who cares.

When I had small children they ate in their high chair, none of this wandering about with snacks everywhere malarkey. I also had a playpen in the kitchen so I could whizz about safely. They are healthy, sociable adults with lots of friends so don’t appear traumatised with being curtailed sometimes by high chair or playpen.

I am so glad I do not give a shiny shite about the lives of others on social media.

Scrumbleton · 21/01/2024 10:47

Your routine sounds a bit excessive- i clean the kitchen and run the dishwasher daily. i also do a tidy of each room used daily. The robovac (dirty Garry) does the kitchen daily ( other rooms are vacuumed weekly). The robovac also has a wash function (love it). Bathrooms I do weekly. polishing, vacuuming other rooms etc is also a weekly job. Laundry once a week 3-4 loads. I mostly use the drier so keep ironing to a minimum.. Windows twice a year. There are only 2 of us here and we've a big house and garden - we're pretty tidy so the house is always presentable but im not willing to be on it all day every day. I am a slob about changing the bedclothes tho and do that fortnightly. I do a day or two deep cleaning monthly ( ovens, nooks and crannies, skirting boards, blackening wood burners, polishing silver and brass)

Well said. My kids sat in a high chair to eat too. Who would have them wandering around eating? Bizarre. Also had a playpen so I could crack on. Two perfectly well balanced chaps now x

lljkk · 21/01/2024 10:51

As little as possible.

Krustykrabpizza · 21/01/2024 10:52

Daily would be keep on top of kitchen, do around three loads of washing a week and fold and put away as and when I get the chance. Living room tidy and hoover maybe twice a week. Can't say I ever deep clean the recycling bin, I deep clean the normal bin if it smells, don't wash the windows ever. Mop floors as and when but I hate it. Don't do beds weekly. I think you do too much

Snowdropsareontheirway · 21/01/2024 10:53

I’m a sahm so we’re in the house more often so make more mess. DD2 does mornings at school nursery.

Everyday

  • one loads of washing, washed dried and put away except for the few bits which need ironing. DH does some of this. Kids put away their own washing after I’ve folded it.
  • DH unloads dishwasher, and I pop things in it through out the day. Sometimes it needs to go on again after lunch.
  • A quick tidy around the house (5/10 mins) done while I’m doing other things.
  • Wash bathroom sinks when I’m washing my hands
  • Put the robot hoover on
  • DH and I alternate with who cleans the kitchen after dinner and who baths the kids, includes sweeping the dinning room, washing dining room/kitchen floor x3 times a week. Also set the washing machine to be finished in the morning.

Weekly

  • iron, just my tops, kids school polos and kids T shirts from the weekend. Takes about 40 mins
  • DH cleans the bathroom
  • Dust, use real hoover, clean any marks on windows (small child) in the rest of the house, clean kitchen, wash down units fronts, front of fridge and bin and wash all down stairs floors.
  • change bedding - DH and I share this task
Ewoklady · 21/01/2024 10:54

I work full time and have two primary aged children and I keep a very tidy home (I think) but one thing is I de litter everything and have brilliant storage and I think that’s key (also very hard when kids were younger)

everyday I tend to wipe kitchen surfaces and run around with cordless vacuum

I put a wash on every single day so no pile up

batch cooking saves mess everyday (so I have lots of curries, stews etc) or I buy something like salmon and baby Potatoes and stops all that mess and smells in the house daily

when the kids are in the bath I clean it then and after my shower I use baby wipes to clean

dh does the bins and changes bedlinen and I clean my car sometimes when I stop for petrol at the garage (there is a good vacuum there for a pound or two )

Viewfrommyhouse · 21/01/2024 10:59

Computercalendar · 21/01/2024 00:25

People hoover the house everyday?

At least 2 or 3 times a day for me. Hard floors and multiple cats are unforgiving. We have a cordless vacuum though, so it's not a lot of effort.

AdoraBell · 21/01/2024 11:02

Ignore Instagram, most of what’s posted on social media is curated like a Hollywood film. All sparkling and perfect for the camera.

Cut yourself some slack for a few years, as long as you and the children are fed and healthy you’re achieving great things. Just keep the kitchen and bathroom clean and everything else can have a wipe/dust as and when.

I can't even plead 'I always cook from scratch' in mitigation - not that I need to. I'm exhausted reading that lot. Deep cleaning the recycling bins every week? I don't think I've ever done that bar the the food waste bin, and that only when it gets too manky to be bearable. Caddy gets rinsed out with disinfectant ditto.

Lantyslee · 21/01/2024 11:07

It really isn't necessary to clean that much. At one point I had three DC under four but I certainly didn't clean the car once per week. I've got other things to do with my time. My kids have survived to adult hood in a house that's significantly less clean than yours.

Paw2024 · 21/01/2024 11:24

Instagram ready is easy too

Pile everything in one corner/another room, take photos, done
I could take a lovely photo of a candle/decor corner and you would presume my whole house looks like that it doesn't

BertieBotts · 21/01/2024 11:34

I'm in awe of how much you're doing with two under two (and one a newborn!) I don't have any gaps that close but when I've had kids of those ages most of my day was spent cuddling up breastfeeding, making food, doing bare minimum tasks (to me, dishes, bins, laundry).

DH also did a lot - do you have a partner, what do they do?

I now have a teenager (plus two little ones) so he empties dishwasher and bins. DH tends to fill dishwasher and facilitates tidying up toys at the end of the day.

Floors/beds/bathroom/other decluttering gets done as and when one of us has time and motivation to spend on those things. Probably each about every couple of weeks. Proper deep cleaning happens randomly every few months.

We survive, house isn't magazine perfect but it's not too bad.

If you're cleaning too much apparently The organised mum method is meant to be good for that.

BettyBakesCakes · 21/01/2024 12:15

It varies.

Wipe down surfaces as and when throughout the day every day. There's nothing else I do daily but through the week I'll do washing, dust all over, hoover when needed, clean the toilets/sinks when needed. Windows prob get done twice a year lol. Bathrooms weekly.

Crazybengalcats · 21/01/2024 12:24

Every day:

Wash up after each meal plus when there are glasses and cups in the sink

Hoover all of downstairs

Wipe over dining room table

Wipe down surfaces as needed (few times a day)

Clean upstairs and downstairs bathroom (sink, bath and toilet)

Many, many loads of washing and drying!

Every week:

Mop all of downstairs, plus vinyl in upstairs bathroom and DS2 bedroom

Wipe over desks and drawers in DC bedrooms

Strip bedding, wash and dry then remake beds

I also try to dust, clean windows and hoover the car about once a fortnight.

scaredofmice88 · 21/01/2024 13:13

Daily.. washing up/load dishwasher 2-3 times.
Make beds, general tidy.
Wipe down kitchen (granite worktops and gloss units so forever need wiping to look clean!)
Put a wash on

Every other day
Hoover
Empty kitchen bin

Weekly/bi weekly depending if I can be arsed
Hoover whole house
Change beds

Once in a blue moon
Clean bathrooms/hoover car
Iron
Clean cooker

I think you're maybe doing too much?
