How/where do you store hats and gloves?

I seem to have many scarves and hats and they just kind of live wherever. They don’t hang up on the coat hooks where I keep all other outdoor stuff and need to be on hand by the door so I don’t forget them…

just wondered what other people use/do?

Under my ottoman bed in the warmer months. In winter I only wear one scarf and one pair of gloves, the scarf is hanging up with the coats and the gloves in coat pocket

Old wicker baskets in the boot room/outer hallway. We built shelves to hold baskets for everything, with school pigeon holes for all that other crap (sun cream, head lights, mossy spray etc.
It's the most useful space in the house, it contains so much, and stops it leaking into the house.

I've made a conscious choice this year to have ONE pair of black gloves that go with everything to tackle this problem. So far I've managed not to buy every gaudy, clashing pair that catches my eyes and then lose one of the pair within days!

I keep them in my coat pockets, one each side, put them in before I take the coat off when I get home.

I've got a bobble hat, I stick the pompom into a coat pocket while it's on the hook.

My scarf hangs over the coat hook with my coat.

Wicker basket which sits under the coat hooks.

Dilbertian · 16/01/2024 17:42

Two string bags (nice ones) hanging in the coat rack by the door. Hats and scarves in one, gloves in the other. You don't have to take the bag down, just release one handle from the coat hook and the bag hangs open for rummaging.

Yirk · 16/01/2024 17:44

Another wicker basket owner, it sits in the hall near the coats.

Wendysfriend · 16/01/2024 17:54

In a big shopping bag hanging on the back of the door in the utility room 😂

dudsville · 16/01/2024 17:59

In the entrance there's a shoe shelf bench thing, then above that we have many coat hooks, and then above that is a slated metal shelf. It has sun hats, umbrellas with handles hook on, scarves get looped through. The best bit though is i then have a knotted string with clothes hooks for pairs of gloves. I feel so smug about that, like I'm the most organised person ever.

I have a sturdy fabric box/basket (probably from Ikea) in the porch for gloves, snoods and wooly hats. I have a metal hat stand for scarves and stiff hats.

CharlotteBog · 16/01/2024 20:08

Gloves and some hats live in an upside down sombrero which hangs in the hall cupboard.
Other hats are hung over the folded up ironing board in my wardrobe.
Special gloves and hats( running, cycling, open water swimming) live in the appropriate kit bag (hopefully).

KCSIE · 16/01/2024 21:16

A fabric storage box by the door next to the radiator for hats, gloves and mitts.

MoonWoman69 · 16/01/2024 23:15

I use a plastic storage box with a lid. They all go in there. I have the odd clear out every now and again and send the ones I don't wear to charity.

Ambi · 16/01/2024 23:22

Kallax here too, a big one in the hallway that stores our shoes and bags, scarves and hats in winter and sunglasses and sunhat in summer. Gloves live in coat pockets.
The kallax was cheap temporary storage until we found something else we liked. Still haven't found a nice piece of storage that fits as much as the kallax 2 yrs on.

AmyDubanowski · 16/01/2024 23:24

Big plastic storage box on wardrobe shelf containing “seasonal” stuff like hats, scarves, gloves, thick fluffy socks etc for winter and swimwear/sunhats for summer.

SkankingWombat · 16/01/2024 23:44

We have 3 white Ikea Trones boxes. One for me, one for DH, and DCs share the third. They are sold as shoe storage, but work well for easily stuffing scarves and gloves into whilst not projecting out too past the coats. They are fitted to the wall under the coat hooks, so the coats mostly hide them. They provide a useful little shelf too, which houses the compact umbrellas.

We have some small hooks in the hall that scarves hang on, then we have a basket that gloves and hats go in.

WonderingWanda · 22/11/2024 07:03

We have one of those plastic draw units in our cost cupboard. Everyone has a drawer for things like hats, gloves, scarves etc. I have a box on top of my wardrobe for handbags. The kids have hooks in another cupboadd for their school bags. Lucky to have a lot of cupboard space though.

BarbaraHoward · 22/11/2024 07:09

We clearly have less than everyone else. Grin Scarves go on coat hooks and then we have two of these so everyone has their own little basket for hats, gloves, sunglasses, keys etc.

Lotsofthings · 16/01/2024 16:38

In a canvas tote bag on a coat hook under the coats.

Same

KayVess · 22/11/2024 07:16

We have a large porch area and they are in an old toy box organised in other little storage boxes inside. Well in theory. Now it’s cold everything is all over the shop as we’ve been rummaging.

BigDahliaFan · 22/11/2024 07:35

The ones we use the most in a drawer in the unit in The hall. Then a box full in the cupboard under the stairs. I also have decorative, present scarves in my wardrobe.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 22/11/2024 07:51

We have a four segment kallax unit with four material boxes. One box is DD coats, gloves, hats (she's 2). One is cycling wear (gloves, shoe covers etc). One is summer hats (a bit more robust!) And the last one is adult gloves, hats and scarves.

It works well but I do need to sort and get rid of orphans etc!

sashh · 22/11/2024 08:45

I keep gloves in the pockets of my coats, hats are on the coat hooks, scarves are either in a drawer or around the coat I last wore.
