Why is my cutlery coming out of the dishwasher with rust spots???

The other day i didn't shut the salt dispenser properly and eveything came out funny and the cutlery had rust spots. Since then its still happeninhg but i dont know why. Any ideas?

it could be something to do with different metals, i use to put sissors, sharp knives etc.. in too and mine did the same when i just put the cutlery in on its own it was ok.

Hmm, possibly. I did read in the manual that different metals shouldn't touch each other. But in your case if they were all stainless steel, i dont see how they would react with each other?

There's probably still a fair amount of excess salt in the dishwasher (dried onto the sides etc). Try running it through a full wash empty, if you throw in some white vinegar (about a cupful or two) then it will get cleaned and de-scaled at the same time.

Our dishwasher isn't very good and tends to put too much salt into the wash all the time so I only put small amounts of salt in when the low-salt indicator shows.

Thanx bran, that makes sense. I think it's ok now as i've not seen any more rust spots on stuff. I'll remember to shut the salt dispenser properly next time, that's for sure!
