🎄Welcome to the December Flylady thread, this is a long running thread with many regulars but newcomers and returners are all very welcome. We love to chat as well as looking after our homes.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - your inbox will end up very cluttered!

There is an app that you can customise to suit your schedule and home but I haven’t tried it, others on here have, you can customise it and use it for notifications.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (we aim to have lots of laughter too)
  • Mount Washmore - multiple LOLs
  • DW: dishwasher, not wife
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit
  • BRC/DRC: box/basket/drawer of random crap

I'll try to update links every day, although it could get a bit hectic as we proceed through the month.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you. Ask if there us anything you understand - our motto is No Fledgling Left Behind.

Hello I hope everyone had a good weekend. DS is ill again! Fever and bit of a cough. He also fell over at school last week and grazed himself and the graze got infected 🤮 so have been applying antibiotic cream over the weekend. Thankfully it’s clearing up now. He’s been sleeping on the sofa most of the morning so I’ve got quite a bit done.

It’s pouring here today but at least it isn’t quite as cold as it was. And it being so dark and gloomy means I can’t see the dust and fingerprints 😉

tada’s
morning routine
school run
tidy dc bedrooms
Change beds x 3
vacuum bedrooms x3
lol x 2 from yesterday into dryer, folded, put away
1 lol hung to dry
Put Christmas tablecloth on

to do’s
lunch
hang 2nd lol
3rd lol from weekend folded and put away
3rd lol into machine
3rd lol hung up
dust bedrooms
clean mirrors and glass panelled door
kitchen cupboard fronts

may not achieve all of this!!

Searchingforsanta · 04/12/2023 14:11

I've been home from work today and probably will be tomorrow because dd2 is still suffering with scarlet fever 🤒

Tada
🎄 morning routine
🎄cleaned out a kitchen cupboard and threw out a bag full of out of date sauces and spices 🤢
🎄 showered dd2 but was only quick as her skin feels so painful
🎄 did some painting craft with dd2 but she's mostly been on the sofa under a blanket

To do :
🤞clean cupboard fronts
🤞tidy and clean living room
🤞iron tomorrow's clothes

We'll see how this goes depending on dd2

Oh no @TheMainChristmasCharacter I hope ds starts to feel better soon!

@SleepingIceDragons I giggled at the needing more coffee ! I am currently on a coffee ban as I'm having some dental work done - it's driving me to insanity!! 45 mins is a long way to the shops , it sounds like a massive task ! Good luck 🍀

@SingSongVerilyTheSky I'll look the books up thanks , I've just finished reading marshmallows for breakfast- a book I started ages ago but for some reason couldn't get fully invested until about half way through! I'm going to read leaving time by Jodi Picoult next 📖

Searchingforsanta · 04/12/2023 20:46

Tada
🎄cupboard fronts
🎄living room clean
🎄 clothes ironed for tomorrow
🎄tea made (nice and easy leftovers)
🎄painted dd2 nails (a sign she's starting to feel better !)
🎄started reading Leaving Time

ExpensiveDecorations · 05/12/2023 07:35

Morning all, well, straight after work DH and I went out to help collect money with the local Santa, expecting that to take about an hour and a half but we didn’t get home till 9, so didn’t get as far as wiping cupboards. Will try and keep it on the list for the week though.

Today’s flight plan is here http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=0 the mission is to declutter your cutlery drawer, ours isn’t too bad as I did it a few weeks ago.

OP posts:
CherryogDog · 05/12/2023 07:58

Morning 🌄 everyone 👋
I managed to put all my laundry away, I really don't know why I've got such a mental block about it. I keep up with the LOLs, just don't put it away.
I can't focus on my ToDos, basically my whole house is a todo 😄 but celebrate my TaDa's instead.
I've recently tidied my cutlery drawers, I also have a secret drawer, well actually it's where the foil, clingfilm, baking sheets and rolling pin lives. DP doesn't use any of that so I can hide my best knife and my stash of garlic purè in there.
I was always finding my knife dirty (DP eats meat, I don't) so I wash it and hide it away.
And he uses loads of garlic and there was never any left when I wanted it.
Just need a hiding place for my favourite soup mug and emergency mayonnaise supply now 😅

ExpensiveDecorations · 05/12/2023 08:06

I have a similar system for tools @CherryogDog . DH never puts them away and I was sick of never being able to find a screwdriver so I bought myself a big pencil case which houses several screwdrivers, mini pliers, my USB memory stick, my favourite calculator as well as my pens and no one else knows.

OP posts:
SleepingIceDragons · 05/12/2023 10:03

Mum took the approach of naming her tools and keeps them in her room away from Dad. I have a box and don't typically lend them. Amuses me greatly when a hammer is needed and i just seamlessly magic one in 5 mins. That tends to get a look. But it just lives in the box with a picture hanging kit. The staple gun for upolstery does not fit in the box though, which is annoying.

Actually that is a good point. Ds is collecting stuff for moving out. He will need a basic tool kit. He knows how to use it so that aspect is covered but he will need tools of his own. He has a box of christmas bits he has been given, some bedding he can take with him and a whole heap of kitchen stuff. So he has a good start for the next phase of life. The reality of the cost of living is something I get to hear about regularly. But it is nice that he is so on the ball with everything.

Cutlery drawer was done the other week so that is good. Did not get most of what i wanted to get done yesterday as there was a too much coffee incident. I have 1 hour to get everything sorted before i need to leave. I am feeling super discombobulated this morning.

to do
meeting
empty the sink
rewash the slow cooker
deal with the pots
laundry
finish the christmas cards - URGENT
Noodle bowls for tea - just me and ds tonight
deal with the baking trays
prep stuff for the weekend's early christmas thing

Searchingforsanta · 05/12/2023 10:39

Morning everyone !

Well done to you and DH for volunteering, it's people like you that make the world a better place ❤️

I'm the same @CherryogDog, I have no idea why it's so difficult to put the clothes away but I do end up with a pile in each bedroom! Well done to you for catching up with it !

You have all made me smile at the thought of secret stashes ! I'm stealing that idea ! Although mine would probably consist of chocolate and not tools 😂

I'm still off work today , dd2 is still quite poorly 🤒

Tada
🎄Morning routine
🎄daily jobs
🎄cutlery drawer (I'd decluttered a little while ago but emptied and cleaned it)
🎄cleaned random toys on the kitchen side that dd2 had put makeup/goo type stuff on
🎄breakfast
🎄2 x LOL

To do
⛄️Tidy & clean stairs & landing
⛄️Think about what I'm making for tea
⛄️Call EE who were meant to be sending me a SIM card, have charged me but no SIM card has arrived

Searchingforsanta · 05/12/2023 20:44

Evening everyone,

Tada
🎄tidied and cleaned stairs (part of home blergh , I follow the organised mum for this)
🎄 rang EE
🎄cooked a lasagne
🎄pottered about most of the day but can't actually remember what else I have done 😂 mostly washing pots / putting on the dishwasher / moaning at ds to tidy room / bathing dd2

Hope everyone has had a good day.

HazelNuttyElf · 05/12/2023 23:38

Sorry I've been AWOL, been a little busy here! Add that to the fact that I fell asleep on the couch after work last night, I really haven't done much, flying wise. Until today.

Ta Das:
☕️ LOLs x7
☕️ rotated DW
☕️ meal plan done for the week
☕️ cleaned fridge out
☕️ cleaned kitchen bin after emptying it
☕️ sorted out Christmas presents, I'm almost done!
☕️ grocery pickup order placed & picked up
☕️ went into grocery store to grab a couple things I couldn't add to my order
☕️ went to the bank to pull some cash out
☕️ currently at my hair appt, just roots and a cut today

When I get done here I need to look into getting a trumpet for DS (he wants to teach himself!), and get my jeep washed as it's filthy.

ExpensiveDecorations · 06/12/2023 07:45

Morning! Today is Wednesday, which means anti-procrastination day. So I will be writing my Christmas cards this evening.

I have just cleaned all the cabinet doors in the top half of the kitchen, will do the bottom ones tonight in an attempt to catch up. today’s flight plan is here

http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=0

The mission for today is to clear out the fridge, I badly need to do that too.

I haven’t been posting the baby steps, but today’s is a good one, putting out hotspots. http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-6/

The babysteps are micro-habits that we are aiming to build into our daily lives (some of them are very sensible, others a bit bonkers). Have a look if you have time.

OP posts:
JewelleryCat · 06/12/2023 21:28

I haven’t been too well so just been keeping up with the basics like vacuuming every day. I like doing it every day to build the routine up

ExpensiveDecorations · 06/12/2023 23:22

Yes, doing something every day so it becomes a habit is really important I think. Also means things don't
mount up or get too dirty.

Tada!
Fed cats
One x LOL done and on heated airer
De-pooped litter trays
Work
Cooked dinner
Updated budget spreadsheet
Faffed about with photos on laptop
Didn't write Christmas cards
Phoned parents
Took call from DS (at uni)
Took LOL off airer, sorted, put my stuff away
Clothes out for morning
20 mins tidying DD's room
Yoga stretches
Bed

OP posts:
DitzyDaffodils · 06/12/2023 23:59

I'm not feeling it today.

Ta-da's:

🥶 Morning routine
🥶 Found a frame for the pictures I wanted to put up and got that done
🥶 Decided where to put my new house plants, gave them a good soaking too they were very dry
🥶 Cleaned out the fridge
🥶 Extra LOL
🥶 Decluttered
🥶 Took a walk
🥶 Wrote some Christmas cards
🥶 Evening routine

ExpensiveDecorations · 07/12/2023 07:01

Morning, I’m finding it hard to get out of bed on these cold dark mornings. Very wet here today. However the cats nag until they have been fed so here I am. I have a few errands to do today, which is exactly what Flylady suggests for Thursday, I need to pick up a parcel from the sorting office and some meds from the vet. As well as work.

Today’s flightplan is here http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=0, we are still in the kitchen and today’s mission is to shine the sink, which is also the first babystep. It really does make a difference. Not that I always do it, but it is good to have a reminder.

OP posts:
DomesticElf · 07/12/2023 21:18

Thank you for WM/TD wisdom!

It's house move full steam ahead here. The new house is all clean now, including ovens, blinds, and top of the fridge. Carpets got shampooed professionally, hopefully will be dry over next few days. Piano is already moved across. First set of furniture is being delivered tomorrow, and then the rest of our stuff next week.

I've decluttered mine and kids wardrobes, as well as random bits that accumulated in the bathroom.

The biggest issue will be a lack of washing machine and dryer for 1 week 😩 I tend to do a load a day to keep on top of it, so I may need to find a launderette or something in the interim as we are waiting for our washing machine to be delivered.

It's all a bit of mayhem, but of things go to plan and I don't lose my will to live, we should be all set and unpacked by Christmas.

SleepingIceDragons · 08/12/2023 07:29

Fingers crossed for you Elf.
I have basically slept 36 hours. Apparently i really needed it. Feeling mostly human this morning and no threatening migraine which is really nice. What is not so nice is that apparently in migraine stupor earlier in the week I promised to take the stubborn one who is being argumentative out for the day. Who knows how this is going to go, but at least there will be farm fresh yummy veg. I have a huge list of other stuff that needs to be done but i suspect that that will end up being a saturday job. Can't be in two places at once. <sigh>

ExpensiveDecorations · 08/12/2023 07:53

Morning all, my day off so I’ve had a mini lie-in. Had to get up and feed the cats though. Last night I spent the entire evening (well it felt like it) clearing out and cleaning the fridge (it’s big with lots of shelves and drawers). Well overdue. I have taken out some plastic containers that DH bought to keep different sorts of veg separate, they sort of worked but not really and created a lot more cleaning. Hoping to do it more often now.

Friday i clean out your handbag and car day, also date night. IT’s DH’s work Christmas meal tonight so that’s our date night sorted. Got a million and one things to do today though, including picking DS up from uni for the weekend (3 hour round trip).

Today’s babystep is about starting a control journal for our daily routines etc. Flylady suggests paper in a folder, many people are more likely to use apps, kitchen whiteboards etc nowadays but the principles are the same

http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-8/

The flight plan is here http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=0#google_vignette

The mission is to clean the top of the fridge (no I didn’t do that last night, will have to get a step to reach it). Have a good day everyone.

OP posts:
SingSongVerilyTheSky · 08/12/2023 08:16

Morning. I fell off the thread again 🤦🏻‍♀️ life has been hectic.

I really REALLY need to get on with Christmas shopping/planning. And laundry. Always with the laundry 😒😩

CherryogDog · 08/12/2023 08:45

@Searchingforsanta you must be very restrained to consider a chocolate stash, mine goes straight in my belly 😋
I'm definitely not flying these days, although I'm waiting in for a parcel today so hopefully get some bits down, my house looks like a student's squat at the moment!
But we are having a date night tonight hurrah!

SingSongVerilyTheSky · 08/12/2023 08:58

Chocolate doesn’t stay hidden long here either 🤣

I really must get going. So sleepy (couldn’t doze off for ages last night). Need to get some work done this morning 😒 so it’s time for a very basic power of three!

po3.1
❗️Meds
❗️Shower
❗️Eat breakfast

ExpensiveDecorations · 08/12/2023 12:19

Tada!
Drove DD to college (45 min round trip, was nice)
De-pooped litter trays twice
Swept and mopped kitchen floor
Hoovered dining room and hall
Wrote a birthday card
Paid a bill
Ordered a couple of presents
Made a list of all the places I need to go to this afternoon and worked out timings
Potted up a plant cutting someone gave me yesterday
Stripped bed, washed and into TD
Second LOL done
Transferred photos off phone
Opened Christmas cards (still haven't written mine)
Texted friend to meet up over Xmas
Put DW on.

Off now to petrol station, vet, wool shop, Ikea, DS's uni, DS's GP, then home with him and out this evening. Phew.

Tada

🎄dentist
🎄work
🎄school run
🎄chippy tea

Now I've bought a chippy tea so I could get on with the daily chores because I was out super early this morning - instead I've sat on my phone 🤦‍♀️ someone please remind me that I'll feel so much better in an hours time if I just get up and get on with it ! I just want to go for a nap 😂

To do :
⛄️ daily routine
⛄️ start the uniform washing
⛄️ clear out the bags
⛄️our fridge is integrated so wiping down the front of the cooker instead of
⛄️ hoover under living room sofa and wipe skirting board

DitzyDaffodils · 08/12/2023 16:58

I'd compromise. Put the laundry on. Do your daily routine while it's running and anything else you can fit in before it finishes. Then once it's hung out or in the tumble dryer if you still need a nap have one. At least that way your basics are done Santa
