Calling all people with clean floors, dogs and gardens...

How?

I mop daily and sweep at least once a day if not more. I use a specialist dog cleaner. I have tried numerous types of mops and buckets including buckets that separate clean and dirty water.

My floor is never clean. I've literally just finished mopping and sat down and already I can see dog hair everywhere. Within about 30 minutes I can guarantee there will be mud too, even if I do not let the dogs into the garden. It's like they breed mud.

Nvm, I've just looked again and there is already mud [sigh]

People who know how quickly my floor gets dirty can tell when I've just mopped but to anyone else who enters the house, it looks like I've not mopped in weeks.

I suspect the key is not having dogs but I am asking anyway in the vain, and probably misguided hope, that there is some secret or magic cleaning tool I am unaware of.

We have a dark floor and a light haired dog. The hair is obvious, dirt not so much. If we had gone for a light coloured flooring the hair would blend in but it would probably look filthy most of the time. So on balance, I chose the dark floor 😆

Thank you @HappiestSleeping

That looks different to the one we have. I have added it to my Amazon wishlist for when I get paid.

You're very welcome. Christiesdirect.com have a deal on for November. Might be better priced than amazon.

Also, if you have hard floors, the rubber broom things are excellent.

Our garden consists of decking, stones and pots. We have a poodle who doesn’t shed. 😎

WingingItSince1973 · 14/11/2023 17:33

I have 2 dogs. One that sheds and one that is a mud magnet! Also the mud magnet is still being toilet trained so if I leave the patio doors open she's in and out and in this weather that means wet paw marks. So I have one of those squirt and go mops for a quick whizz round plus a cordless hoover for the laminate floors for the hairs, leaves etc. These are used daily. The mop a few times a day. On my weekly clean I'll use the proper mop and bucket and the big hoover for the rugs 😂

hermioneee · 14/11/2023 22:37

I have a bissell crosswave and a dog..
Honestly- it's BRILLIANT but a hoover and a mop is quicker.

You have to clean the crosswave after every use and you need to dry hoover before wet cleaning otherwise the dog hair kind of gets stuck to the inside of hose and then prevents the dirty water getting sucked up as well. Then you get just gunk spread around your floor.

I use it when I really want to do a good clean but for every day it's a faff.
It's a shame because I am rather into seeing the dirty water afterwards!

We have a long runner type rug in the utility and as a first step I make sure the dog walks along it to get the worst off

Saying that I have just had to kitchen roll a series of muddy paw prints where he’s obviously done a protest rug avoidance

That whole dirty water thing is soooo satisfying, isn't it?

I have a husky which is the Queen of fur! While not completely eliminated I've found regular grooming keeps most of the fluff and smell at bay. I hoover probably every other day, we have a large patio before entering the house and a huge mat by back door so feet are generally clean just sometimes a little damp after being in the garden.

I also clean at a house with two dogs and it never smells of dog - as far as I am aware no hoovering is done between - they also have large patio at back.

Also wooden/tiled floors. The only thing that gives away we have a husky is our dark rug!

I’ve just bought a shark hydrovac, it’s honestly been a game changer.

I have one dog, one farmer husband and two sons so I needed nothing short of a miracle to keep the floors cleans …. The hydrovac helps massively 👍

WhatHaveIDoneNo3 · 14/11/2023 23:21

I should have said the hydrovac is a Hoover/mop in one so you don’t need to brush first

LaviniasBigBloomers · 14/11/2023 23:22

I have those big mats you get in shops at the front door and a policy of never looking at the hall floor. Or the two feet of walls where he shakes off the mud.

Drying properly at that point means the rest of the house is OK-ish. I never look at the corners though.

GrinI’m the same! Ignorance is bliss! Just don’t look down or across, problem solved 😆

Sweep and mop at least once daily?!

Impressive!

I have 4 dogs - 2 medium size ones and two little ones and pale limestone floors. I have bifold doors and an open plan kitchen dining living room. I open the bifold doors and get my leaf blower out and blow the whole lot outside🤣 It genuinely saves hoovering and then I mop the grubby bits 🙂

I think the revival of this old thread was worth it for this - genious! I also have the same styles of dogs and floors, but alas, no bifolds.

I wonder how OP @Frequency got on...

StressedQueen · 13/10/2024 17:21

Our dogs thankfully aren't that messy and don't shed a lot 😃

Ah, I realised I was fighting a war that could never be won and have since embraced the hair and the mud. It does still bother me from time to time and I'll have a few days of frantic, excessive mopping and sweeping but I've mostly learned to live with it. I've also discovered if you buy a low-watt lightbulb you cannot see the hair on an evening.

So, there is my cleaning tip for the day, sit in the dark and you won't see the mess 😂

Too late for OP, but I insisted when we got a dog it had to be a non shedding breed.
my kids shed enough with their long hair!
