I have just bought a second hand amby. Can anyone enighten me on the following: Can you put waterproofs under or above the mattress? Do you handwash the mattress? The sheets and mattress cover all say handwash only, is this true?

i used to put another sheet on top and then just wash that. The matress isnt very big so not sure where you'd put it or where you'd get one from that small? As it is quite a tight fit around the edge of hammock bit and the mattress

I bought a second mattress so I have a back up in case of pee/pooh/sick etc as I couldn't think of a way around it. Will watch with interest to see if I did miss a very obvious solution!

I washed my covers/sheets etc on a handwash in the machine and they were fine. I was probably lucky that dd2 only ever did small possetts on the hammock, we never had a full on wee/vomit incident. I read on here somewhere that someone replaced their mattress with standard upholstery foam they got cut to shape.

Aha, I have just called amby. they say don't put waterproofs down as it affects breathability but suggested placing a towel or terry nappy between the mattress protector and the sheet. Also I've now heard you can get babysafe type foam if you go to a special shop (don't know where the shop is).
