Sandpapering your headlights to remove the foggy look

Has anyone done this?

Got flagged at my moT. Sun damage to headlight. Seems to be common due to microcracks in the headlight.

Solutions are roughly to do light sandpapering until it comes clear, then apply (liberally, 3 coats or so) a new UV protection paint to the headlights.

Has anyone done all that ?! It seems so simple but I have a talent for screwing up all things mechanical. And sandpapering the headlight well... it just sounds like damage not restoration. I don't know any car buffs to check I understand right. Or if there's a better resolution. So have you sandpaper'd your car headlights lately?

Thanks in advance.

Get some c3 compound and buff it into the headlights with a bit of rag. It will fade but I don’t advise sanding Unless you know what you’re doing. I work in a mot station.

I’ve heard of using toothpaste….which I guess is a gentle scourer of sorts…maybe try that first

They will just fog up again, ring round scrap yards

My brother just did something to sort out the headlights on my daughters new car and he had talked about sanding so may have done that. I wasn’t there and he knows what he’s doing so I can’t really help. All I can say is the difference was amazing.

Polish them, we have to do our Astra lights annually to get rid of the opaqueness
