Flying through August & the summer holidays with Flylady!

Welcome to this long running thread, we may seem clicky, but all are welcome to join in!

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Habit of the month of August is Laundry

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out and date night (what's that again?? 🤔)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

I'm sure there's more I haven't mentioned, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change).

As a side note, this is my first time leading this thread, please be patient with me if I miss something. We really are a friendly bunch!
Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

Cherry I only lasted 20 seconds into that 😱 people actually put that on for their babies to watch instead of talking to them themselves? 🤦‍♀️

CherryogDog · 07/08/2023 06:55

@BloomingHazel the songs are haunting me 😁😁
We went to a country show yesterday, I managed one LOL last night.
Today's ToDo is one LOL, then I'm all caught up on laundry, apart from putting it away, including a pile from before I went away.
For the first time ever I packed the exact amount of clothes that I needed, so everything went straight in the laundry, rather than having to put clean clothes away, so my suitcase is empty.
I'm going to set up my Vax and have a play with that.
I think I'm going to struggle getting out of bed though, I'm completely exhausted, there's a chill in the air and my bed is really snuggly!

SingToTheSky · 07/08/2023 08:00

Well done for packing the right amount of clothes cherry that’s quite a skill!

I have lots to do today and I’m not best pleased about that. Need to start easy as I’m exhausted, not a great start to the week!

po3.1
❗️Get dressed in painty clothes
❗️Breakfast
❗️Brush hair/teeth

SingToTheSky · 07/08/2023 08:57

First meltdown of the day dealt with 😑

po3.2
❗️Wash various paintbrushes etc using shower, then leave to soak and put on normal clothes again
❗️Towel LOL
❗️Phone call #1

SingToTheSky · 07/08/2023 22:36

👓washed painting stuff
👓LOL
👓set up habit tracking app
👓health check at the gym (blood tests and such)
👓very short workout
👓organised tomorrow with friend
👓booked an exercise class
👓wrote a long list of specific things to declutter so that when I have time and energy I can go and collect them. I know it would make more sense for me to just collect things as I think of them but neither brain nor body seem to work that way at the moment!
👓kept food diary

Didn’t get phone calls done

EversoDetermined · 07/08/2023 23:16

Morning 🌄 everyone 👋

I didn't get much done yesterday, DP had a day off so we went shopping and caught up on some errands.
At about 2pm I felt like I'd "hit the wall", like that scene in Run, Fatboy, Run! I did manage to do 2 LOLs, but none of it has been put away.
Today's ToDo is definitely put the LOLs away!

HillsBesideTheSea · 08/08/2023 07:23

More emergency building work needs to happen. So today i need to empty 2 rooms so that it can. This is more serious than the last round of emergency work too. <sigh>

I am going to need a power of 3 today cos i have the CBAs, and just want to crawl back into bed, pull the covers over my head and pretend the whole world has gone away...

PO3
get dressed
get bloods taken
unload, reload and run DW

BloomingHazel · 08/08/2023 14:38

Tuesday is plan and play day.
Today's mission is to wipe down the fronts of the kitchen cupboards and drawers.
https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-8/ the baby step today is to write down your morning routine and your before bed routine. The one thing I do actually do before bed is get my clothes out ready for the next day. Granted, I only do it when I have to work the next day, but it makes those mornings so much smoother.

This month's habit is Laundry, something I definitely have to work on today. DS didn't do any LOLs yesterday and we have a lot from camping 🙄

I didn't get anything accomplished in the house yesterday. I worked all day then went to a dealership with DH afterwards to look at pickup trucks for pulling the camper (ours can pull it, but it really is too heavy for it). It ended up being a late night, still no truck.
I slept awful. I've been fighting with my breathing since Saturday night, having to use my inhaler quite a bit (I don't usually have to use it at all) and it kept me up a lot last night. I now have an awful headache, but still have so much to do today so must plod on!

hills if I was closer I would offer to help you! I hope you do actually have some help and that you're not going to have to do it all yourself

Cherry 2 LOLs is still something done!

ED that's a lot of running around! You accomplished a lot by the looks of things

To Dos: (it's before 8am here)
☕️ LOLs
☕️ register DS at the school (it has been online for years, but this year we have to go in - pen & paper only) 😒
☕️ take dogs to groomers
☕️ bathe dogs (?)
☕️ meal plan
☕️ grocery shopping
☕️ take DSs trombone to get a deep clean
☕️ massage 💆‍♀️ very much needed, rescheduled from last week
☕️ possibly go to dealership again 🙄

Can I just crawl back into bed instead?!

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 08/08/2023 16:06

ta da
half of my open clothes storage moved down stairs
2 pieces of furniture collapsed and removed from room
rotate room dividing furniture so now against wall
Clean surfaces as go
Plot and plan where furniture from office is going.

It's really so going as i need to rest for half hour every half hour i do. <sigh>
why is it always when i feel rubbish that stuff like this happens?!

CherryogDog · 08/08/2023 16:58

I'm absolutely wiped out and got a migraine now.
All I've done is DP's LOLs, 4 loads, one of which was his socks 🤣
Hopefully I'll accomplish something tomorrow.

EversoDetermined · 08/08/2023 18:50

@BloomingHazel I forgot on my list yesterday that I also cleared out the veg and salad drawer of the fridge. It really was a busy day. Been at work today so little else accomplished. Sorry you are suffering with your breathing.

@HillsBesideTheSea oh no, your house sounds like a never ending building site, I hope you have managed to to everything you need to.

@CherryogDog I hope your migraine lifts quickly, not nice.

BloomingHazel · 08/08/2023 19:26

Thank you ED it is all stemming from acid reflux and the coughing that causes. Sometimes the job of clearing out that drawer in the fridge is the worst of them all!

hills there's never a good time for any emergency building work, but you're right, things like that always seem to happen at the worst possible times

Cherry rest up

Ta Das (so far today):
🦋 LOLs 4th lol in washer
🦋 register DS at the school (it has been online for years, but this year we have to go in - pen & paper only) 😒 done
🦋 take dogs to groomers done
☕️ bathe dogs (?)
☕️ meal plan
☕️ grocery shopping

☕️ massage 💆‍♀️ very much needed, rescheduled from last week

OP posts:
BloomingHazel · 09/08/2023 04:22

Ta Das:
🛻 meal planning done
🛻 grocery shopping done
🛻 massage done (t'was amazing!)
🛻 cleared out a lot of the truck
🛻 went to the dealership, we ended up getting a new(er) pickup (we will swap them out tomorrow)
🛻 6 LOLs done in total

I never did bathe the dogs. I wanted to bleach the bathrooms too, but it just ended up being a really busy day and I ran out of time.

OP posts:
BloomingHazel · 09/08/2023 04:37

Wednesday is anti-procrastination day. So just go do whatever it is you've been putting off (whatever that may be).
The mission is to clear out your fridge (we were just talking about this!). She says to sort through everything, throw away whatever is out of date or unrecognizable. Make sure there are no empty containers that have been put back in the fridge. Lastly, wipe the shelves (just a quick wipe with a damp cloth)

I finally managed to put my laundry away.
I've taken the shower caddies off the wall, going to try to remove the rust and then spray them with "stuff " to stop them getting manky again.
@BloomingHazel what sort of truck are you getting?
I'm going to be buying a new towing vehicle soon, probably another Discovery as DP knows them inside out so can keep them running smoothly.

DomesticElf · 09/08/2023 22:35

Thank you for the well wishes, lovelies. I am sort of back to functional state, sort of 😬
Survived my mother's visit, thankfully no drama, although the whole thing felt very awkward.

DH is treating his pat leave like holidays, so I'm getting a bit of a baptism of fire in terms of juggling everything with two littles and trying to keep the house running. My hormones are still all over the place post delivery, which does not help.

Ta das:
🥵DW rotated
🥵Endless LOLs. DH did not do a single load of laundry since I went into hospital 1 week ago.. so I'm tackling Mount Washmore as a matter of urgency. Folded and put away considerable chunk of it.
🥵Kitchen wipe
🥵 Recycling out to the bin

This evening was fun. I was doing bedtime on my own for both kids - one overtired and tantrummy, the other cluster feeding. All whilst trying to put yet another LOL to dry. All whilst my other half was looking into his phone. I may need a new patio 🥴

SingToTheSky · 09/08/2023 23:17

YesTaDa
🤔took Cagletini to football class
🤔gym session
🤔met friend and had lunch with our little ones
🤔looked at beds online

ta da
🌶cleaned wall paint splashes from windowsill, radiator and skirting boards
🌶put fresh coat of paint on windowsill and the odd touch up required on other woodwork
🌶painted radiator
🌶swept and vacuumed dust etc from bare floor
🌶helped DD1 measure her room for potential beds, we chose one that would fit and happily the same will work for DS
🌶bought shoes with Cagletini
🌶took returns back to a shop
🌶walked to gym and dropped Cagletini at yoga class
🌶short workout during class
🌶kept food diary

CherryogDog · 09/08/2023 23:32

@DomesticElf I'll be round in the morning with the kango drill and an alibi 🙃

DitzyDaffodils · 10/08/2023 01:05

Elf I'm making a voodoo doll of your H as I type

Glad you finally got your massage Hazel

Hope your migraine is fading now Cherry

Wishing you strength for the building repairs Hills and praying nothing else goes wrong, so you can have a little break from it all

I grew cucumbers one year ED, they were delicious. Had about 5. What will you do with 17 of them?

Decluttering is going well. Living room is looking a little neater. I'm surprised at how quickly the donations bags are filling up. Gave another few pieces to a friend this week too.

Finished my journal yesterday so got to choose a new one today and crack it open to write on the very first page. One of life's simple pleasures

DomesticElf · 10/08/2023 01:45

Ditzy and Cherry thank you for solidarity!
Ditzy oh I love that feeling of writing in a new journal too. The smell, the feel... Mmm. Love it.
Sing you were busy, great TaDas.
ED 17 cucumbers? That's impressive.

CherryogDog · 10/08/2023 09:23

@SingToTheSky your lists and TaDa's are impressive!
@EversoDetermined I think I'll try cucumbers next year. My tomatoes are doing well, and I've got an aubergine sporting one fruit, first time I've tried growing one. And a random sprout which I'm hoping is from an avocado stone I pushed into a pot.
I've been craving a marrow lately, rookie question, are they just giant cucs?
@DomesticElf you're welcome, and hope things look up soon 💐

HillsBesideTheSea · 10/08/2023 11:07

Marrow are giant courgettes sing technically a different plant but that is a whole heap of arguement to be avoided.

So i have covid so building work on hold, and all sorts of stuff having to be rearranged. <sigh> ONly plus i can come with is that i have to rest. Except i feel better than i have done for a few day and have all the things i want to do Hmm <sigh>
