Plumbed fridge freezers & water/ice dispensers

Trying to decide whether to get a plumbed-in fridge or not and the ater dispenser is the bit that I'm stuck on...

At the moment we have a non-plumbed fridge with a water jug that we fill up manually. After a few days, it gets black mouldly stuff in it and I'm sick of cleaning it, so we don't use it. Would a plumbed-in fridge freezer be any different? I know they have a water filter in but surely there will be some water sitting in the compartment for a while and the compartment might go mouldy again?

I've jsut read another thing saying that you should clean out the water line and dispenser every 2 months and that sounds like an awful faff!

We had one with plumbed in water and ice dispenser. The ice maker packed up a week before the guarantee ran out, was repaired and then failed again about nine months later. Then man who repaired it said it was a common problem.

The cold water was fine.

Our Samsung came with a 10 year guarantee which expired 6 or 7 years ago. Don't clean the water line and don't have any problems with mould or stagnant water. Ice is not cubes but those crescent shaped things and also does crushed ice. Use the water many times every day, especially at the moment, and the ice every few days in the winter and every day when it's warmer. Very sceptical we'd use it when our then teens begged for it - they've both left home as now adults and we still use it just as much!

Thanks! Probably a daft question but how does the water get chilled?! Does it sit in a reservoir?

We have a Samsung - the ice maker packed up just after the 2 year warranty ran out! The water still works - there is no tank - I assume it chills from running through the freezer??
