Washing machine recommendations - clueless

arcticmonkey19 · 23/05/2023 19:10

I’m struggling to choose a washing machine, been googling for days with no luck. The usual currys and AO. Different brands etc. So I thought I’d ask here for recommendations as still nowhere forward.

I’m never that organised for sorting clothes out and even worse now with baby as just want quickness and easyness, I know I did love my mums old samsung eco bubble because it would be just over an hour and could wash at 60 on a daily wash setting, it could take any amount (ie few towels and few clothes or extra sometimes when my washing built up) but no longer on sale. I’m looking for a washing machine that could do mixed or daily. Unless there is another setting? That would take clothes, towels etc.
Any recommendations - ideally wouldn’t pay more than £600. Would also be good if it has good energy rating

Not the Samsung WW90TA046AE I hate mine!

cloudyface · 23/05/2023 19:21

Bosch as a brand is highly rated in surveys. So I always buy the cheapest Bosch as long as it has an electronic timer function. I do mountains of washing and they usually last about 7 years. I know several people whose very expensive ones eg Miele have lasted less time. On my current one there are several programmes of about an hour plus a 15/30 min quick wash.

If I was buying one today I'd get the £399 one in Argos 452/5512.

CherryRipe1 · 23/05/2023 19:25

Avoid Indesit. Both mine & DDs have badly rusted away at the bottom in 3-5 years. Replaced mine now.

User1529865 · 23/05/2023 19:26

We have a John Lewis brand one and are very happy with it

Stuckinadream · 23/05/2023 19:29

I have the Samsung WW90TA046AE, I really like it 🤷‍♀️

F1ymetothetoon · 23/05/2023 19:29

Love my Samsung eco bubble.

LaGiaconda · 23/05/2023 19:31

I have a Bosch which has been very reliable. I also have a Beko tumble drier. They are cheaper than Bosch, but tend to have good ratings....

SunnyspellsandScatteredshowers · 23/05/2023 19:33

I recently bought a Hoover 10kg washing machine from Mark's electricals. My last two machines were LG and Samsung so I worried Hoover would be rubbish. But I absolutely love it!
It's actually made by the Chinese brand Haier, they have an app you can control the machine with. I thought I probably wouldn't use the app, but I love that too! Gives you loads more choices of programme. You can save favourite ones. Start the washing remotely and it tells you when the wash has ended.
You can change temperature and spin speed depending on programme. It can wash a full load in 59 minutes, there's longer ones too but I usually stick with the 59 minutes, or 20° wash that takes 2 hours.
Definitely recommend it

Justputitdown · 23/05/2023 19:37

John Lewis own brand is the same make as AEG. I love ours.

RidingMyBike · 23/05/2023 20:33

Cheapest Miele or Bosch one - they last years (as in decades!) and ultra-reliable. Mine has got stains out on a normal wash cycle from baby stuff passed on by friends that was apparently impossible to shift!

bunnyrabbitsandbutterflies · 23/05/2023 20:51

Anything Bosch. My mums is 15 years old and still going.
I had an indesit which broke down the day before Xmas in 2019 so bought a £50 Bosch machine off a local family advertised on Facebook marketplace. It was supposed to just see us through Christmas till the new year sales.... it's still going! The previous owners had it 5 years.

LindorDoubleChoc · 23/05/2023 20:58

My most hated washing machine was a Bosch. It conked out after 5 years and I did a little dance of joy.

I think most machines will do a 1 hour 60 or 40 wash, which is what you seem to be looking for OP?

I'd just go to Currys or look on AO and get the cheapest. None of them last longer than 5 years anymore except possibly Miele.

Topseyt123 · 23/05/2023 21:02

Bosch for me. I've always had good experiences with them. My last one was 20 years old when it died and this current one is about 10 years old.

CherryRipe1 · 24/05/2023 06:39

I had a Bosch for 19 years. I left it when I moved.

greenacrylicpaint · 24/05/2023 06:52

indesit rhymes with ...
is what a plumber friend says.

tbh from the washing action all machines are much of a muchness. look for one (read the manual!) that does what you want in the time that you need.

the energy rating is based on a full cotton load on the eco cycle. if you tend to wash quicker then look up the energy consumption in the manual of the cycle yoy most use and compare that.

fwiw current machine is a miele, very economic. but previously had bosch.

ReviewingTheSituation · 24/05/2023 08:27

There's no point looking for a good energy rating if you're going to use programs which are 2 hrs or less. The energy ratings are quoted for the most economical program, so if you're not going to use that one the rating is worthless to you.

Most machines will have a quick program, but it won't be cheap to run. And you can mix your load in any machine- you don't need a specific setting for that.

I have a Beko, which is 9 years old and going strong. I'd replace it with another Beko if it broke. My main criteria were drum size and spin speed. 9kg and 1600rpm works well for me.

Inadvertentlyspring · 24/05/2023 08:36

Meh I have moved a billion times and still Co-locating with a Bosch and a Samsung- love the Samsung a million times more, the Bosch is just annoying. Have had three bosches and two Samsungs (I’m not a washing machine destroyer I promise just a serial renovator) and rate the Samsungs more highly.

BUT - it depends what you are like yourself, I like being able to fiddle about and adjust temp, spin speed, rinses etc so Samsung more suitable for that than Bosch.

do have a Bosch dishwasher and it’s great!

Indesit is sadly shit though, not sturdy enough for long term family use in my experience of three of them.

do have a cheap indesit tumble dryer which has been through the mill of a damp garage etc - it is very good!

Frosty1000 · 24/05/2023 11:08

Washing at 60 on a quick wash will never be energy efficient. As eco programme is long I've had to become more organised and efficient with planning loads

Anyway we have had a Haier for about a year to replace the eco bubble which was 💩. Love it, admittedly use eco most times but there is a cotton setting which is about an hour ish. We got it from mark's and highly recommend them to get one from.

Inadvertentlyspring · 24/05/2023 13:06

That is so weird that other people hate the ecobubble, it’s literally the favourite machine I’ve ever had (I’ve had two of them now because of moving). I am in a really soft water area though which does make a difference maybe?

ZeroFuchsGiven · 24/05/2023 13:10

Can I recommend what not to get? a one with those stupid hatches that is there incase you forgot a sock, honestly they are pointless, only open for a certain amount of time when you first put it on and they get minging quickly.

Apart from that i love my ecobubble but I'll never buy one with a fancy schmancy door again 😂

That’s so funny I loved that! I noticed with my new one that they aren’t as common now

I've got a Bosch washer dryer which is wonderful.
You can wash things in 15 mins.

ayeshakhan3 · 16/05/2024 18:09

I've had a Gaba National - 9517 washing machine for two years now, and it's been excellent.
